Astonishing our state dept uses exit polling to measure whether elections are free...in every country but ours that is. You kind of wonder why an SoS with skin in the game would not have checked this out a wee bit.

(9,313 posts)I do not trust machines and am a staunch advocate of verified voting. That said, there may be an explanation for the discrepancies.
It is possible that the magnitude of the discrepancy is related to the number of people who cast votes in "early voting" On the Democratic side, there is a substantial difference in preference by age (with older preferring Hillary). Early voters tend to be older. Since these voters aren't at the polls on election day, they are not included in the exits.
I don't know if preference for Trump or Cruz or whoever differs by age. If not, then the early vote would not be as skewed, and you would see smaller discrepancies as a result.
On Edit: Just a thought. Does anyone know if the question has been examined?
