Another list for election watch - Equal Marriage Amendments?

Last edited Wed Oct 31, 2012, 08:53 PM - Edit history (1)

IIRC, Washington State, Maryland, Maine - who else has this on the ballot?

Edit - Adding Minnesota (which needs to be defeated, unlike the others)

Those are pro equality measures. Minnesota has an anti-equality amendment on the ballot. Orangepeel Oct 2012 #1

Maryland's is a referendum on a law passed by the legislature. I think that Washington and Maine are, too. Minnesota's is an amendment.

There is a proposed amendment to the state constitution that would provide that marriage can be only between a man and a woman. A current statute says the same thing, but the fundies and bigots want the constitutional amendment to prevent a future legislature from repealing that statute. There has been a huge movement to defeat this amendment and we are hopeful that it will be defeated, notwithstanding all the out-of-state right wing money and the pressure from the Catholics and evangelicals. The good thing is that if a ballot is submitted without a vote on an amendment, that counts as a "no" vote. Just about every house in my neighborhood has a "Vote No" sign on the lawn.

But I wish you all the best up there. Hope you defeat this thing.

Saw the other day that Prop 8 will go for consideration to SCOTUS on Nov 20th (or whatever legal language means they decide whether to hear it). May all be moot soon.

Only a couple of "anti" ads which are the fear based ones. They have been quickly countered.

Has a good chance of passing.

He has been really positive about the chances there!

Love him, BTW. My early pick for '16.
