NDIANAPOLIS The National Rifle Association is supporting tea-party favorite Richard Mourdock in his GOP primary race against veteran U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar.
National NRA lobbyist Chris Cox is scheduled Wednesday to announce his groups support for Mourdock, the Indiana state treasurer running against Lugar in the May primary.
The Mourdock campaign confirmed the endorsement today. A handful of high-profile conservative groups have lined up behind Mourdock in his bid to oust Lugar. The anti-tax Club for Growth threw its support behind Mourdock last month.

Anyone from Indiana, please give us a rundown on whether or not this guy has a chance of beating Lugar. The Democratic candidate is Congressman Joe Donnelly

(51,170 posts)The focus at this time is Mourdoch not showing up to his job 66% of the time. A lot of them to the boards mentioned in the wiki article.
Previously, the focus was on Lugar's stance on different issues especially claiming to stand against Obama and supporting the jobs created with the Keystone project even though it is states away from Indiana.
My thought is that we win either way. Lugar spends his money fighting to keep his job and wins. There will be animosity within the party. Lugar will have less to spend in the general. If Mourdoch wins we can use a lot of the messages that Lugar is using against him. Mourdoch is considered a weaker candidate if he reaches the general. At Lugar's age this election might seriously drain him.

(27,711 posts)I think if it's Romney we have a real chance at taking it.

(51,170 posts)We need help with campaigns driving it up to big campaigns and we need big campaigns to provide coattails to small campaigns. And we need different groups to do more than they have ever done before. Hopefully, they include labor unions motivated from the screwing we all got with RTW and Occupy keeping it going. And maybe some good people from the Teabaggers realizing the group is crazy and drop out.
We even have a chance of cutting a major state senator.

(24,446 posts)Lugar having a primary challenger. I'd say he would be the favored candidate but he'll have to fight for it this year. He's getting up there in years too. Im really surprised and a little sad to see Lugar attacked like this but the Pubs have gone so far off the map that anybody not as radical as their most radical member of their party is now considered a sellout. I hope that we can win a Senate seat and replace some Repub congresscritters as well. I'm not that optimistic about our governors race as we are quite likely to get Pence. *ugh*.

(22,057 posts)all time heros. The state of the American political system is dismal when men like them are replaced by pimps like Evan Bayh and Mike Pence and Mitch Daniels. Its just sad.
Either Birch or Vance would have made a great president...
