2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumVery good results for Bernie tonight!
Clinton should have won handily in Kentucky after her landslide in 2008 and she even pumped a lot of money into Kentucky this time.
It was a CLOSED primary so she should have done much better.
Bernie still has the momentum with the even steven result in Kentucky and the better result in Oregon.
Even Wolfy Blitzer looked mystified tonight...

You're going to see more "Reality" remarks dropped into Ye Olde Stumpe Speech, and at some point, he's going to concede and toss his support to the winner. After all, the winner--that would be Hillary--used HER 'evil' PAC money to help get HIM his Senate seat in 2006. She opened up HER rolodex and asked HER donors to give to him as a favor to her.
So, you can keep hanging on if you'd like. No hurry. But it's over, even if Bernie take OR.

(68,643 posts)He is the loser and after the Nevada debacle which Bernie refused to condemn, hell would freeze over before I would support him. And, I am betting he has lost any shot with the supers...which is his only path as he did not win by enough votes to matter and lost Kentucky outright. He has no success no matter how it is measured...no popular vote, not enough delegates...big rallies is about it. He could never get enough people to vote for him. And his behavior about Nevada has turned many voters off ...He is low on money too.
If this is spin it's not very good spin and if this is your true belief you know zip about electoral politics.

(3,072 posts)She lost the deep south handily in 2008 but did very well there this year. Different election, different candidates, different demographics, different voters. Overall, she is doing a lot better than in 2008. Winning 1 state by a lot less than nearly 10 years ago is not some harbinger of doom.

(11,949 posts)that you are explaining that a loss is actually a win, it is time to pack it in.
I like Bernie, but he has no chance. It is not the math that is against him, nor the establishment, but the voters.
I love youthful enthusiasm, but in the end we all grow up and accept reality. If Bernie had a chance, I would be all for him, but it really is over. Hell, Clinton was much closer to Obama back in 08.

(11,546 posts)and tied in KY - and he should "pack it in"?
Seems that the voters are NOT against him! The MSM, the Dem establishment and Hillary supporters, yes, but not the voters.

(11,949 posts)Where we start new each week. The results from February and March are just as relevant as today's results. And he actually lost ground tonight. Every time it is a close finish his hurdle gets higher.
Bernie has lost. I do not expect him to concede until after California. But anyone who understands math can see the writing on the wall.
I almost voted for Bernie, but now I am glad I didn't. I wanted him to pull the party to the left, and he has done so. But now I am worried he is more of a Socialist then a Democrat and Will burn down the house if he does not win.

(521 posts)i.e. College-age and twentysomethings. These kids, born about 1995 or so, were raised entirely different than us older people. This is probably the first Presidential election where the "everyone gets a trophy" millennials have been able to vote. These kids who grew up using playgrounds with foam on the ground and plastic covering the handles of the swings, so that they don't get pinched, and who were covered from head to toe before they were allowed to go ride their bike around the neighborhood. They were raised to believe that they're special and entitled to everything, so Bernie's message is right on par with how they were brought up and anyone with an opposing opinion is "the enemy" or coming from "not a safe space," and it's been fascinating to see how that upbringing has translated into politics.

(11,949 posts)Any liberal voter coming of voting age after 2004 has never seen their candidate lose. So anyone between 18-30. Throw in the coddled life many, but not all, have lived and this is what you get. There are still lots kids who have had to struggled.
When many of us turned 18 it was either go to college, in which case we got to live at home, or move out. The main reason I finished college is because when I discussed dropping out with my father he told me that he would let me stay at home for one month to find a job and a place to live. After that I was out the door. Needless to say I have a degree.
When I moved to Florida to start my new job he gave me a briefcase! He was a great father.

(10,500 posts)I remember hearing that Hillary would lose in Ohio, New York and Pennsylvania. That didn't happen.
Hillary is dominating among Latinos so I think it is reasonable to predict that she will win New Mexico. The Latino vote will also likely give her a win in California.
And New Jersey doesn't seem like a good state for Bernie and does seem like a good state for Hillary. Kind of like Florida.

(3,089 posts)It really is shameful to rile all those people up for violence and uncivil behavior when he knows he is going to lose. His intent is to just disrupt and destroy Hillary. He really only cares about adulation and disruption. He has no intention of helping the Dems to win in November. He will be satisfied to say "I told you so."
He is basically and angry, evil old man.

(20,453 posts)I believe corporate Democrats are indistinguishable from their handlers at GE, Goldman, Ernst & Young, Time Warner, DLA Piper, or Citigroup. And, if all the GE employees behaved and reported as they should whilst the ads keep pouring in and lobbyist keep writing the bills while funding the SuperPACs, why, they just might have thought to have wrapped it up much sooner.
It must really piss them off to know they cannot tell people to "take their seat" without a fight.

Demsrule86
(68,643 posts)And Clinton was not running against a person of color...face it which makes a difference in Kentucky. Also, Bernie loves him some coal these days (hypocrite?) He needed a landslide and did not get one. She is less than 100 delegates away from the nomination. Bernie looks increasingly desperate. I doubt it is the fault of his campaign guys...no professional would give him such poor advice. Thus, Bernie himself is driving the increasingly negative attack on Clinton and on the Democratic Party. Maybe he really is delusional and believes he can win? Maybe he needs money (the cynic in me says this is the reason) or maybe he is bitter and angry after believing for a New York second he could be president and has decided to blow up the election and hand a victory to Trump. I don't know. But his speech last night was awful, and he didn't address the dreadful behavior of some of his supporters in Nevada; calling Democratic women filthy names is never acceptable for any reason.
