Related: About this forumSome more perspective on Sanders' big rallies

I just noticed that Sanders happened to win Oregon by about 30,000 votes which is coincidentally about the same size as the rally he had in Portland. Which is interesting because it means you can look at pictures of the rally and get a good feel for how big his lead was.
And we can see that a crowd of that size netted him only four delegates! Which kind of puts those rallies into perspective doesn't it?
Edit: doh I'm dumb. The numbers have changed already. I hadn't noticed that they weren't all in yet.

(3,733 posts)The same way yard signs and bumper stickers and all the people
someone personally knows who support Bernie doesn't matter.
He trails by hundreds of delegates and millions of votes.
Delegates and votes are what matter.
He failed in those.

(5,356 posts)Just pointing out the scale of those numbers. People are so impressed by those HUGE crowds but at the end of the day they only add up to a few delegates here and there. 30,000 people don't mean shit in a country of over 300 million! Unless your goal is just to take $27 from each of them in which case, well played!

(3,733 posts)Now that has fallen off since New York.
I think money is why his advsors encourage him to press on.
He's done.
There's no longer even an outside chance that he wins
the nomination.
But if all the faithful will send another $27 he'll take it
all the way to the convention.

(5,356 posts)Just a couple of simple numbers. But I'm sorry, I'll try to go more slowly next time.

(5,356 posts)I tend to think of math as being slightly more complex than the basic number sense we learn as children but I forgot my audience.
See Bernie's crowd. Bernie's crowd is big. Bernie's crowd cheers. Cheer crowd. Cheer! See Bernie's delegates. Bernie's crowd gets very few delegates. The crowd is sad. Cry crowd. Cry.

(5,356 posts)Many Sanders supporters here have insinuated that the gap between crowd sizes and the vote totals is due to cheating. I was just pointing out that today's Oregon primary gives a simple illustration of what 30,000 people (the size of many of his biggest rallies) means for the end result. A 30,000 vote lead in OR netted him 4 delegates.
