All eyes are on California's June 7 presidential primary after all. Just not for the reasons anyone expected.

Instead of being decisive in the Republican nomination, it will be a coronation of Donald Trump. On the Democratic side, instead of being a coronation of Hillary Clinton, it's a real contest between Clinton and Bernie Sanders, who wowed a sun-baked crowd of true believers at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds on Wednesday.

Everything seems upside down, except for this: Clinton still is the best choice for Democrats in California.

World trade is a local issue here, particularly in Silicon Valley, and experience in foreign affairs is critical not just to nati

Enthusiastic supporters filed into a high school in San Diego Saturday for a rally with former U.S. President Bill Clinton in support of his wife’s campaign for the White House.

Clinton held an “organizing event” for Hillary Clinton’s campaign at Bonita Vista High School on Otay Lakes Road in Chula Vista, hoping to get voters fired up ahead of California’s June 7 primary.

Clinton was set to speak at 11:30 a.m. at the high school's gymnasium. Supporters were lining up around the campus several hours earlier, hoping to get into the event.

This included residents from across the county, like a supporter who was celebrating his birthday by rallying for Hillary Clinton...........................

Bill Clinton: Hillary has ‘best economic ideas’

(Misael Virgen / San Diego Union-Tribune)

Former President Bill Clinton on Saturday told an adoring crowd that Hillary Clinton “has the best economic ideas” that can "help us all rise together."

He said his wife and her Democratic presidential opponent, Bernie Sanders, have debated the important issues facing the country, and made no mention of Sanders’ increasing criticism of Hillary Clinton as the campaign heads toward the California primary June 7.

...................Bill Clinton told hundreds of people in the Bonita Vista High School gym — and hundreds more in an outdoor overflow area where his comments were piped in — that they needed to help deliver a big win and the necessary delegates to allow Hillary Clinton to clinch the nomination before the summer Democratic convention in Philadelphia.

"She needs to go to that convention with the wind at her back," he said.

In his introductory remarks, he praised San Diego for supporting technology and biotech industries, which he said will have long-range impacts on people’s lives.

“Everybody in this audience has a chance to live to be 100 years old because of the work that you’re doing,” Clinton said.

Much of his speech was similar to his talk at San Diego’s Balboa Park Club earlier this month.

On Saturday, he reiterated that Hillary Clinton wants college students to be able to refinance student loans, and allow them to volunteer for public service for three years to get debt relief — which he added will make it easier for them to move out of their parents’ homes.

That was particularly well received by a crowd that was decidedly younger than the one earlier this month.

“She believes everybody ought to graduate from college debt-free,” he said, adding that her idea is different from her opponent’s proposal to make college completely free. “When people can pay something, they ought to pay what they can.”

The former president said his wife’s plans for education, equal pay and better pay will "help us all rise together."

"We are the best positioned country to take everybody along for the ride," he said.

He suggested Hillary Clinton, the former secretary of state and New York senator, would do the best job of helping the country welcome people regardless of where they are from and who they are. He added the country needs to eliminate discrimination against the LGBT community and people with disabilities.........................................

She talks about her own experience, and how she was able to take a position as an attorney, right out of law school with the Children's Defense Fund in Alabama, because her student loan repayment was based on a percentage of income. She could have her dream job without worrying about not being able to repay student loans.

I wouldn't mind seeing a "Peace Core/ Americore" type program as well.....

my dad does hardcore policy research on student aid in higher educations. We were talking, just in passing, and he said that the "free" college was a bad deal, that it just ended up being a giveaway to families that could afford to pay, but didn't really help poor students.
