(37,648 posts)I forgot to copy the link. Found an article 2 days ago in Huffington Post. He's been a rep there for 14 years, grew up there. Now, he's super famous, being a VP candidate. An unknown is running against him, so he doesn't have a chance.
He doesn't even have to campaign there, and he'll win.

(9,808 posts)Found this at gazettextra.com (one of the local papers for that race):
Ryan should be alarmed that Rock County Clerk Lori Stottler has heard from Republicans voting early who were convinced they couldnt vote for Ryan in both spots. They mistakenly believed doing so would cancel their ballots. Or they thought some sort of conspiracy was at play; they errantly believed Ryan couldnt possibly seek both offices in the same election. Our laws allow that, however.
I can't find any recent polls, but Zerban was within single digits at the end of September, and since he's essentially running unopposed and since it appears that local residents find Ryan's abandonment of the race offensive (quote I saw: "He's [Ryan] focused on his career, not this district." I'd say that puts it in the potentially winnable category.

(12,325 posts)why is he spending millions to keep the seat?

Paul Ryan is spending millions on ads in Wisconsin, but its not to help get the GOP ticket to the White House, its to keep his congressional seat
of course, it cant hurt.
The GOP vice presidential nominee is spending about $2 million on television, radio and print ads to keep his House seat, Paul Ryans congressional campaign manager Kevin Seifert confirms.
The ads will run in the Milwaukee and Madison media markets, and the campaign just released a new one Wednesday making the total number of television ads at eight, less than two weeks before Election Day.
They will release a ninth before voters go to the polls on Nov. 6, a congressional aide tells ABC News.

(3,577 posts)Rob Zerban has said he accepted all the invitations from community debate sponsors, but Ryan seems to be too busy. He has been in or close to his district many times during the campaign, but could never squeeze in an hour for a debate.

(8,377 posts)The argument, apparently, is they figure as a VP loser, he would be the logical front-runner for 2016. And therefore, democrats would frequently paint Ryan into legislative corners that would prove embarrassing to his as he makes his long-awaited Ayn Rand tour.
Makes perfect sense, except for the part about how losing GOP VP candidates are first in line for the next cycle.
Let's see. 2008, the losing GOP VP candidate was some lady name Palin.
1996, Bob Dole's losing running-mate was Jack Kemp.
1992, the losing GOP VP was Dan Quayle
OK, in 1976, Bob Dole was the losing VP. He wasn't in line for another 20 years.
Anybody remember William Miller from 1964?
And Henry Cabot Lodge lost as VP candidate in 1960
So tell me again about Ryan's great chances? It might be different if he had done anything to distinguish himself. Instead, he showed himself to be a little many with a fantastic imagination about himself, and a person pushing a vile form of politics that hardly anybody wants to be associated with when the lights are shone on it.
