2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSen. Bernie Sanders was given unprecedented say over the Democratic Party platform because...
The DNC is now experiencing BUYERS REMORSE.
Hillary has been surpassed by Trump in national polls.

(53,787 posts)So now that that's done, let's hope the constant attacks on the party by Sanders stops.

(7,300 posts)I don't think so though. My guess is they suddenly realized that about 55% of the Democratic Party (Roughly the percentage of the party that supports Sec Clinton) which is only about 30% of the registered voters (GOP is slightly less but not by much) ain't very many votes and they also saw that Independents (About 40% of registered voters) really, really, REALLY (The dreaded Triple Really!) don't like Sec Clinton (Or Bill really) nor trust her but they do like Sen Sanders and trust him.
That's it in a nutshell. I bolded the word "suddenly" because it is a sudden revelation on their part. The Hyperbolic Nevada Storm Of 2016 is what made them aware enough to check the math. Funny. In spite of a year of Sen Sanders throwing around the word Revolution a million times a day and with him attracting large crowds and large sums of cash in small donations, they just now realized this ain't no game.

(27,787 posts)One minute, the DNC is all powerful and stealing the election ... the next its weak and afraid.
One minute you demand that Hillary and the DNC reach out to you ... and when they reach out to you ... you shit on them.
No wonder SDs aren't flipping to Bernie.

(12,958 posts)With Trump surpassing Hillary and all...
We told you so!
JoePhilly
(27,787 posts)Unfortunately for you ... we'll be making sure you don't get to do so come November.
AgingAmerican
(12,958 posts)Deal with it, it's just the beginning. Bernie will be courted by the DNC that spent the last year trying to screw him, to come to Hillary's rescue.
And her supporters will be apoplectic!
JoePhilly
(27,787 posts)You also seem to struggle with what the priorities are.
You worry about "who to blame".
We worry about how to ensure a Dem occupies the White House for the next 4-8 years.
This is why the "movement" fails.
AgingAmerican
(12,958 posts)The standard fallback position for Hillary supporters.

(27,787 posts)You think they are figuring out who to blame.
I think they are ensuring a Dem controls the White House.
And if you think I attacked you personally, ALERT on me.

(12,958 posts)Her numbers have continually dropped over that time. It ain't rocket science to see the pattern.
Bernie to the rescue!! This is only the beginning. As she drops further and further behind, Bernie's influence will grow like a snowball rolling from top to bottom of mount Everest!
Bernie to the rescue!!
JoePhilly
(27,787 posts)The funny thing is that the "movement" didn't even want Bernie.
The "movement" wanted Warren and she said "No."
So Bernie stepped in. And now he's the only one who can save us.
But hey, whatever helps you get through this.

(20,176 posts)if their overtures don't staunch the bleeding, that a certain candidate is going to be informed that she's withdrawing to "deal with health concerns."
I mean, her supporters will throw a fit but what are they going to say? If she has "health concerns" how can they demand she "risk her health" by staying in?

(1,947 posts)Because I have never been told regime change is a democratic platform policy, nor is fracking, nor is using citizen's united. But hey she has a D behind her name just like ol Zell miller did, and John Breaux, Max Baucus did as well, Byron Dorgan. the types of dems that make people want to leave the party, and they have, due to that very issue.
JoePhilly
(27,787 posts)Feel free to leave the party. I won't miss you.
In November, the choices will be Hillary, and Trump.
You get to pick.

(1,947 posts)I have more choices than that. Thanks for playing who wants to ignore the issues.

You told the other poster, go ahead and leave the party, we won't care. Well I cannot wait for the D side to have issues paying the electric bill, like the Rs are from time to time having.
JoePhilly
(27,787 posts)And the correct statement from you should be " I really could NOT care less."
And the person I told to leave ... I doubt they were really every part of the party.

(9,314 posts)and while they gave him major concessions on the party platform, they do not really have to abide by the planks in that platform - so what difference does it make...they just want the voters.

(24,979 posts)Also, the platform, being worth nothing, is an easy concession.
In fact, the ritual of concession is more important than anything that will be gotten in the way of platform planks.
Platforms are even less meaningful than spoken campaign promises. Once elected a president is going to do what they do, promises be damned, and let The Daily Show run footage of the flip-flops.
But the platform? How many people will know what's in it? How many will care? How many presidents can even quote their own party's? Let's get real.
Sanders at least has been consistent in his messages -- which is why I laugh when people say, hey it's always the same stump speech. Why not? And he's honest in rationally admitting he can't get anything without a fight, without a big movement in the streets and workplaces. These are good signs as far I am concerned.

(35,619 posts)...Democratic Party platform.
But if Sanders gets something big into it such as free tuition at state universities, I'm sure I'll hear about it.

(4,762 posts)party platforms are virtually meaningless documents that are neither binding on candidates nor significant for most voters.
It's a consolation prize.

(7,321 posts)Please bring on Van Jones instead or at least in addition to.
Given Bernie's only getting a third representation, I'd like to see some fresh voices especially Van Jones because he deserves to be there more importantly, we deserve to hear and have his ideas voiced and adapted. my 2 cents fwiw.
