Question about the CA Primary

If the Sanders supporters couldn't be bothered to put their bongs down and register to vote, why should the state be required to extend the deadline to Primary Day? Early voting begins a month in advance. You can vote by mail for every election. Hell, you don't even need postage if you vote in San Francisco. But it was still too much work for some? I'm for same-day registration in principal, but not for those who woke up late and realized that June 7 was coming soon.

Whose husband belongs to the AIP party, and he missed the deadline to re-register as a Dem so he could vote for Bernie. He could have easily done this online (Today was the last day he could have done so). His wife reminded him last Friday I reminded him a week or so ago, and their son in Denver told him to re-register so he could vote for Bernie but he didn't "get around to it." He feels badly about not being able to vote for Bernie, but he's owned up to HIS mistake. His wife will make sure he re-registers as a Dem well before the fall so he can vote in the GE. He had planned on writing in Bernie's name for POTUS this but since he felt so bad about the mistake he made, he's promised his wife that he will change his mind and vote for Hillary Clinton this fall, and won't write Bernie Sanders name in for POTUS

**Full disclosure: His wife told me she baked him his favorite Dutch Apple Pie from scratch, and that the pie ala mode after dinner tonight he ate was what really got him to switch his vote from Bernie to Hillary she chuckled**

A general election is open to all registered voters regardless of party. Primary elections in California are partisan elections and are open to members of that particular party: in this state parties have the option to let non-partisan voters vote in their primaries on a per-election basis.

I'm still trying to get my head around the concept of a member of the AIP voting for Bernie, unless he had no idea what the AIP was when he joined it.

Oh, he KNEW what he AIP was before he joined it, but he was extremely angry at the Dems when he bolted the party (He was a pretty high-ranking party official at the time) and joined the AIP party years ago out of frustration. Personally, I couldn't understand why he joined the AIP because if he was angry at the Dem party, why not join the Green Party, or stay a Dem and just not vote. But to join the AIP party to make what kind of point again Many people left the AIP party here in California recently because they didn't know who/what the AIP party was when they joined. My friend knows he screwed up because he didn't find time to re-register as a Dem so he could vote for Bernie in this years primary. As I mentioned, he was reminded many times to change his party affiliation but he allowed the re-registration deadline to catch him. May 23rd was the last day to change party affiliation (He stays extremely busy with his law firm).

So, per his wife's wishes, he assured her that he will change his party affiliation back to Dem for good. He had intended to vote for Bernie in the primaries, then write-in Bernie Sanders name for POTUS this fall if he didn't become the Dem nominee. Now, while he's not at all fond of the Clinton's, he absolutely loathes and abhors Donald Trump, and says he will make sure to vote for Clinton as a Dem this fall.

You can register to vote online and you can vote by mail. Signing up well in advance is beyond easy, so there are no excuses for not doing so. For those who decided to vote for Sanders today and ended up missing the deadline, boo hoo.

Using Right Wing framing for a group supporting a Democratic candidate who is garnering 45% of the primary vote is seriously fucked up.
