2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIf Bernie really thinks he can win, why hasn't he pivoted to the General Election like Hillary has?
I hear him attacking Clinton and the democratic party, but where are the attacks on the GOP and Trump? If he really expects to be the nominee, shouldn't his attention be directed towards defeating Trump? Has he put out any anti-Trump ads?tazkcmo

I'm pretty sure he'll tell you it's because the process isn't over yet.

(6,719 posts)Senator Sanders speaks firmly against Trump. Right now Sanders and clinton are taking on trump. Kind of a good deal actually.

If he wanted to pivot to the GE, he would have to be more liberal.

Try listening to any one of his speeches, and you will hear almost nothing about Hillary, but definitely stuff about Trump and definitely stuff about "the system that exists", which really, really sucks, in case you haven't noticed.
But if you like things the way they are, perhaps Hillary is a good choice for you.
Some of us think things can be a lot better, and we support Bernie's passion for fighting for that change.
He devotes his resources to what is "practical", to use a word your side likes to use so often. He's up against the whole media establishment, the Democratic establishment, name recognition, etc. - that's why he devoted less resources to the South and why he's devoting less resources to the GE now. At the same time, he is supporting down ticket Dems, those that stand by their Progressive values, as he does.

(80,708 posts)The whole notion of the "pivot" is predicated on the idea that the candidate needs to start changing what they are advocating or how they are presenting their ideological position, based upon the fallacious idea that there is some great moderate "middle" out there to be won over.
It has nothing to do with "attacking trump"- the candidates have been doing that all along.
Sanders isnt going to "pivot" because he actually believes in the stuff he is saying.
