If Obama wins re-election, it's gonna be even sweeter than 2008

As great as Obama was in 2008, the deck was really stacked against the Republicans that year because of the calamity that was Bush. Even the GOP base was embarrassed to be associated with that man.

There was also a lot of unrealistic hope about Obama, especially on the right. He was going to be a "post-racial" president, which in the minds of conservatives meant that he was going to shut up about all that racism nonsense and take away all the "excuses" that minority communities always gave when trouble hit them.

I have to say that the election of Obama has been one of the biggest, if not the biggest, disillusioning event of my life because I had to witness four years of constant racist attacks on the first black POTUS. Well, Obama is no longer "post-racial" anything. He's as black as Muhammad Ali or Jesse Jackson now.

And if he still wins re-election, especially against one of the most dishonest and shamelessly race-baiting campaigns in modern American history, it will truly be a deserved victory.

I think in many ways 2012 is harder than 2008. After all the horrific and ludicrous crap the entire machine has been generating the past 4+ years, in overdrive hyper lunacy, conspiracy theory hyperbole, slander, lies, disinformation, hatred, outright racism, vitriol and bile of four years solid, every day and night from many sources, every corner and mouthpiece,... and still he wins.

not even Dubya was this bad in the campaign

On election night in '08, I felt a tinge of sympathy for McCain. Same thing in '96 when Dole lost.

I will laugh my ass off when Willard tears up in his concession speech.

The disrespect and the constant hate from the right would make a victory very meaningful. Due to the behavior that we have seen the cons do not deserve victory. I really don't think the GOP as a party should go on much longer either. If they don't represent and help the people they vote for what good are they? Then again the people that vote for them can't see that. At first I just did not like the GOP establishment but I have grown to loathe them. Why? The want to foist someone like Mitt Romney on a country that has been at war for over a decade and with a bad economy they mostily created. There is no excuse for that.

You had an entire party actively doing everything they could for FOUR years to prevent him from getting elected. Not to mention the millions of dollars from people like the Koch brothers.

Yes, my friends, this one will be sweeter.

in a way I have not seen yet. The unhinged becoming militant. The crusades launched in fervor. I hope not. But what else could be the outcome of the vile hate campaign that has been waged for 4 long years now? While the politicos who stirred it up are off fighting among what is left of their caucus, the real-world low-information voters who have been gobbling up the gruel they have been fed will be all revved up with no place to go.

Oh geez, I hope Obama wins. I know the odds look favorable, but you never never know. I must say, though, I have found it interesting that the mantra of his campaign evolved from "Hope and Change" in 2008 to "Forward" in 2012. It seems he has become more realistic about how the government machine can gum things up (e.g. partisanship and stalling). A win for Obama would mean that the American public is beginning to learn those lessons as well, and see the value of bipartisan cooperation and working together for the common good rather than political polarity and division.

Not that there is a whole lot of sanity on the right now but it will get much worse. Many of them are evangelicals so there is no compromising with them. If you disagree with them you are in league with Satan. Also unless we retake the House, and I'm not optimistic about that, they will begin impeachment hearings on some pretense by Christmas 2013.
