With all the posts regarding the State Dept report being released, something I haven't seen noted

Typically, a report such as this, that is critical of a major party player or could cause any amount of heartburn for the powerful in the party, would be quietly dumped on a Friday afternoon/evening to avoid the press cycle. We have seen this done many times in an attempt to dampen or kill a story.

I find it a bit odd that the State Department, under a Democratic President, just dropped their report covering infractions of the main Democratic candidate for President on a Wednesday morning. This is a good way to make sure it stays a story for the remainder of the week.

State Dept. Concludes Past Secretaries Of State "Definitively" Handled Classified Information On Private Email
Blog ››› March 7, 2016 11:37 AM EST ››› MEDIA MATTERS STAFF

This is the truth...Article is several month old and does not say what people say it does...rightie Bullshit

http://mediamatters.org/blog/2016/03/07/state-dept-concludes-past-secretaries-of-state/209044

"ABC News detailed a final State Department investigation which concluded that past secretaries of state, including Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice's immediate staff, "handled classified material on unclassified email systems." The findings come as the FBI investigates a private email server used by Hillary Clinton during her time as secretary of state.

For months, conservative media figures have attacked Clinton, baselessly accusing her of wrongdoing for receiving State Department emails on her private email account while secretary of state. On February 4, reports emerged that Colin Powell and aides to Condoleezza Rice also used private email accounts when they served under former President George W. Bush, and some of their emails similarly contained information that was retroactively classified.

The March 4 ABC News article reported that "a final memorandum" issued by "[t]he State Department's internal investigation arm" found that former secretaries of state "handled classified material on unclassified email systems." The State Department found that emails handled on private email accounts associated with Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice contain "information classified at the Secret or Confidential levels.'" Former Secretary Powell responded that those identified emails were not marked "'Confidential at the time and they were sent as unclassified,'" seemingly underscoring Secretary Clinton's defense that "the State Department is classifying documents too aggressively" (emphasis added):"

and Intelligence officials don't want this to ever happen again. It's far too dangerous to have rouge email servers that any first-year hacker can crack into.

Something will have to be done.

which is why Kirby, Toner and Trudeau who do the daily briefings for the State Department have all directed reporters to that organization for questions as the SD itself was taking a hands off appropriately because of the politics.

As to day of week, this is something too big to hide on a Friday hoping it would be missed. Too many reporters, politicians, and interested people have been waiting for this and the ones from FBI, the Intelligence IG, and the judges in FOIA cases.

the portion of the report that sums things up in this manner: SO, no formal, consistent, modern protocol in place when Hillary was SoS, and making up the rule as they go along, creating new and applicable rules after Hillary leaves her post as SoS, and an verbal indictment of email habits in hindsight. Got it.

The State Department had no permanent inspector general—the lead watchdog charged with uncovering misconduct and waste—during Hillary Clinton’s entire tenure as secretary, leaving in place an acting inspector who had close ties to State Department leadership.

President Barack Obama didn’t put forward a nominee to lead the inspector general’s office while Mrs. Clinton led the State Department, making it the only agency with a presidentially appointed inspector general that had neither a confirmed nor nominated head watchdog during that full time period.

Five months after Mrs. Clinton left office, Mr. Obama nominated a permanent inspector general, who was confirmed by the Senate three months later.

State Department audit sharply criticizes Clinton’s email practices
The State Department’s independent watchdog has issued a highly critical analysis of Hillary Clinton’s email practices while running the department, concluding that she failed to seek legal approval for her use of a private email server and that department staff would not have given its blessing if sought because of the “security risks in doing so.”
