Gabby Giffords, Mark Kelly stump for Hillary and gun control in N.J.

Gabby Giffords, the former congresswoman who has advocated gun reform since her near fatal shooting five years ago, and her husband Mark Kelly returned to New Jersey Wednesday to support Hillary Clinton's presidential bid.

They argued for reforms they said make common sense and would help curb gun violence: Preventing people on the terrorist watch list from purchasing a firearm, making it harder for those with mental illness to get their hands on guns and putting restrictions on the gun market to prevent a flood of dangerous weapons from flooding the streets of cities like Camden.

"We're in the grips of a gun crisis in the United States," said Kelly, a former astronaut and New Jersey native, who has advocated gun reforms alongside his wife since she was shot in the head in 2011 at a constituent relations event in Arizona.

The couple pushed for electing someone to the Oval Office with a plan, and the resolve, to stand up to the nation's gun lobby for what they argued are common sense reforms.
