2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhat if it's not Biden but Warren that steps in?
Just a thought though. I know Elizabeth says that she's not interested and all that but this is trump we are talking about. This is too important!
Today's events should make it clear that it's at least a possibility that Hillary might have to step down. If so, I happen to think that Warren is the best person the DNC could come up with to heal the party. I also think it would make bernie more open to working out something instead of taking his revolution to the convention.
This is something that I've been thinking about as we need to come together somehow.
Did I mention that Warren has been landing body blows to trump lately? More so than ever and kinda out of the blue.

(8,541 posts)I'm still caping for Bernie to the end but the fact remains. A ticket with Sanders and Warren would be unbeatable.

(4,667 posts)Bernie has earned the Presidency, putting up calmly (considering) with never ending attacks from Hillary, Debbie Wasserman Schultz and now Barbara Boxer.
Who I am sure see themselves as the Three Furies.
Please stop with the Biden stuff. Biden was never inspiring enough to unify the country. He's run before ad never made it into double digits.
For that reason he's little better than Hillary because he would be an arbitrary pick, confirming the suspicions of the nation that the Democratic Party has lost touch with democracy and lost its way.

(8,541 posts)But I'm trying to see how the messiness can be avoided. I like Biden but I can't Hillary's supporters excepting him as a replacement.
The fact that they are talking about replacing DWS openly tells me that there's movement happening behind the scenes to Bernie's favor.

(8,541 posts)I like Biden but he won't bring the party together if Hillary needs to drop out.

(8,541 posts)But it is what I meant even though I didn't mean to take Bernie slot. That can't happen.
The fact remains that if Hillary has to drop out her delegates will go somewhere. That said I don't think the superdelegates would pick someone who was chosen over Bernie who fought for his votes. A deal will have to be made tho to avoid a messy fight.

(40,416 posts)Step in for what?
Who needs to step in for anything?
And both Biden and Warren have both spoken out about their intentions.
Biden isn't running and Elizabeth Warren isn't either. (Apparently she likes the Senate, and good for her.)
And no, neither Bernie nor Hillary will be opting for a VEEP spot either.
NWCorona

(40,416 posts)And Hillary will not ask Liz to be her VEEP, nor would Liz accept if she did. And Sanders will not be a VEEP choice either.
Anybody who thinks otherwise is delusional.
NWCorona
(8,541 posts)But if Hillary has to drop out before the convention. Who do you think Hillary's delegates would end up being released to with out pandemonium erupting?
longship
(40,416 posts)So let's start there.
Then, let's add a simple question. How many times does Elizabeth Warren have to explicitly state that she is not interested in the White House before people believe her?
NWCorona
(8,541 posts)But I also know that she cares about this county and would step up to defeat trump.
longship
(40,416 posts)Second, whoever it is will not pick any current Dem candidate for VEEP, nor Warren, nor Biden.
It looks like the nomination goes to Clinton at this point.
And no! She will not be indicted.
BTW, I voted for and support Bernie but will support and vote for Hillary if she gets the nod.

(231 posts)but I'm sticking with Bernie. Sure Warren is a better candidate than Third Way Biden but the fact remains neither of them stood in front of the American people like Bernie has this past year. That counts big in my book.

(135,425 posts)That puts Warren out of the running.
She'll get more leadership opportunities in the Senate, though!
Those tweets and comments are not out of the blue, either.
She's playing "Bad Cop" to HRC's above-the-fray Good Cop. Doing a good job of it, too.
NWCorona
(8,541 posts)But I don't think Hillary would let Harry Reid dictate her VP choice. I think he said something like that as well. Sound reasoning.
MADem
(135,425 posts)Dem majority in the Senate and we have a chance of getting one with her coattails. And who knows, we may have some luck in the House, too, though that is a tougher nut to crack.
Also, EW is a northeasterner, and given the enthusiasm for balance, I think she'll go more west. Who knows, though? I'd bet money EW stays in the Senate, unless Charlie Baker gets impeached.
Elizabeth Warren is going to be the pied piper who helps the disappointed Sanders brigade pivot to Clinton for the general. It is my belief that this long game has already been coordinated.
NWCorona
(8,541 posts)I happen to think she'd do that to bring in the Hillary supporters.
I'm also not saying that Hillary won't listen to Harry as she most definitely will but when the chips are down Hillary is gonna pick the best VP to fill the void she's weak in.

(57,936 posts)In all fairness, it should be Bernie. But I don't know whether Bernie would want to be vice president.
MADem
(135,425 posts)It won't be Sanders. He's "berned" those bridges. Also, he's from the northeast. Further, he's in the 65 and up club by almost ten years.
The pick will be someone younger, an up and comer. I would not rule out a woman or other political minority.

(5,790 posts)There is the Indian thing, which Trump would have great fun bringing up.
There is also the fact that she was a Republican during the 1990s. This is different than Hillary Clinton being a teenaged Goldwater girl. Warren was a grown professional woman, and the 90s GOP was the party of Newt Gingrich. She'd have to explain that better than she has done so far.
But if we are going down the someone other than the two we have road, Biden/Warren could be a helluva ticket. My misgiving there is that if elected, the Governor of Mass. is a Republican, so we'd likely see Scott Brown (again) in her former Senate seat. So in this unlikely scenario, I'd favor Biden/Franken.
JDPriestly
(57,936 posts)People love him. He has more experience than Warren.
Biden has been vice president under Obama and is to establishment to be a good counter to a Trump candidacy.
Voters in general want change for the better, not more of the Obama administration.
That is not a criticism of Obama but just a statement about the mood of the electorate. It's a year for a lot of change. Bernie is the right candidate for the Democratic Party.
Algernon Moncrieff
(5,790 posts)With 1768 pledged delegates and 537 superdelegates, Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic nominee. None of our states are WTA. She'll easily pick up 200 delegates next week.

(4,451 posts)It was a few low level dems( Sander's supporters) that raised that.. only Obama has that power and he just endorsed her.

(4,451 posts)dems made noise about removing DWS.. Higher dems said there was no reason to and it is only Obama who can do that. I think they responded to Sanders supporters and said now is not the time for a change..

(57,936 posts)Bernie put himself up as a primary candidate and should be the candidate for the Democratic Party.
That's all there is to it.
Warren would be a great attorney general or Secretary of the Treasury.
