(744 posts)Top tier schools aren't cheap and I was adjusting for inflation. That's what it would cost today. I've long since moved on from that world but I'm no amateur at knowing that there's no win in Hillary debating Bernie and Bernie debating Trump isn't going to get him the nomination. If it were, Trump wouldn't have asked for charity. And I'd be surprised if he actually bothered. He'd be wasting as much of his time as Hillary would be wasting hers.

I've spent the first $500,000 on shoes. God they're just so pricy these days.

(21,210 posts)which her campaign ads and tone in speeches are doing.
Bernie will crush Trump on the issues with complete sentences and Clinton will be watching from the sidelines while be questioned by the FBI.
barrow-wight
(744 posts)Are you upset that she's not bothering to make anymore ads about Bernie?
slipslidingaway
(21,210 posts)I would rather have a candidate that is consistent with their values and who respects all people and who will not get down into the mud.
It is akin to using an excuse that 'others did it as well' as is currently being done with the email investigations.
We are no longer in grade school.
barrow-wight
(744 posts)If you think talking about his sexism, bad behavior, lack of unity in his own party, and absolutely callousness for the 2008 recession is reducing herself to her opponent then I'm not sure what you think Bernie should be focussing on.
slipslidingaway
(21,210 posts)that is not productive, but if you think it is then you can applaud that strategy.
I would prefer a more upbeat and positive focus on what we need to achieve without sinking to Trump's level.

(193 posts)let the debate hinge on issues. Five seconds in he'll be bringing up the "Russian honeymoon" or Burlington College. This "debate", should it happen, is gonna be a real eye opener for the Bernie stans.

(193 posts)Trump bringing up Bernie's rape fantasies? 10 minutes? You know he will. How long until the red baiting starts? 5 minutes? I hope Bernie is prepared for an actual vetting in front of the world.
barrow-wight
(744 posts)I hope they aren't indicative of how he'll be running the White House.
Uncle Joe
(58,364 posts)Regarding vetting, I don't believe the FBI and DOJ has finished "vetting" Hillary yet.
Happenstance24
(193 posts)Yeah, that will thwart him. Are you guys serious? He'll throw everything at Bernie. Hillary too for that matter it's just everyone has heard the same allegations for 30 years that it don't matter anymore. Same can't be said for Bernie. He's had the luxury of keeping his skeletons closeted. Not after this, assuming it actually happens.
Uncle Joe
(58,364 posts)Hillary is still being vetted by the FBI and there is much discovery in the pipeline.
Bernie can more than hold his own against Trump.

Station to Station
(53 posts)He's going to vaguely agree / sympathise with Sanders on a lot of things to try to snare some of his more credulous voters or at least turn them away from moving to Clinton. The question is whether Sanders calls him out for such overtures or just basks in the limelight.
Happenstance24
(193 posts)Bernie will jab him about something and Mr Thin Skin will go nuclear on Bernie's ass. The fact that most people don't know Bernie's past (and the media has avoided it) will be the death blow IMO.
Station to Station
(53 posts)it would be an unsanctioned debate, which is prohibited by the DNC during primary season - Sanders would have to formerly concede defeat and drop out first.
He will know this, so the only reason he'd actually follow through with the debate would be to fan the flames of anger a subsequent (and quite justified) disqualification would ignite amongst a portion of his support base.
fancypants75
(54 posts)He gave Kimmel questions to ask Trump, which he read verbatim and Trump agreed.

(1,446 posts)make them both look weak and misogynistic. And like neither one has a campaign with any substance.
Which, of course is the case.
Happenstance24
(193 posts)It might start that way but I can't see Bernie going a whole debate without jabbing Trump about something, and once that happens.....Game On.
senz
(11,945 posts)Did you all get your marching orders to go after Bernie's 44-year-old critique of sexual attitudes as some kind of "rape fantasy?" Grasping at straws are ya?
Hill must be getting desperate. Guess audit reports and investigations can do that.
Corporate666
(587 posts)Hillary has treated Bernie with kid gloves.
Trump won't.
I think it would illustrate how weak a candidate Bernie is. All of the things Hillary has been too polite and too magnanimous to say or challenge him on will come out.
Uncle Joe
(58,364 posts)senz
(11,945 posts)I bet there will be a huge viewership for it. Trump will probably try to pull some fasties, but Bernie's knowledge and sincerity should bring it back to reality, and it should be lively.
I just hope Trump isn't in the bag for Hill. I've never been quite sure of where he's coming from.
Uncle Joe
(58,364 posts)such a debate would have exceptionally high ratings.
Ichingcarpenter
(36,988 posts)On the most basic level, it gets him a yuuuuuge audience that will probably gain more media coverage than Bernie's been able to get this entire primary season.
The GOP debates broke records with their ratings because everyone wanted to see what the hell donald trump was going to do. People will tune into this debate in what i'm sure will once again be record-breaking numbers. It's trump and "crazy bernie"--who's gonna be able to resist that?
It sets up the frame of a sanders v trump general election in people's minds. i have every faith that Bernie is gonna knock this debate out of the park and show everyone how able he is to take on trump and come out way on top--and that is a really big deal when you consider all the other GOP opponents trump railroaded throughout the primaries. trump has taken down everyone, so when Bernie comes out of that debate looking all the more reasoned and sane--and PRESIDENTIAL--i wonder how many people will start reconsidering hrc, who can only debate in the same canned style that trump is notoriously good at destroying?
And that's another big win for Bernie: looking presidential. because here we have hrc who promised a debate and then ran away from it when it became clear that she does not have this nomination in the bag like she wants everyone to believe. as hrc herself said, this is the TOUGHEST JOB IN THE WORLD, and anyone seeking the office of the president should be willing to debate anytime, anywhere. she isn't. Bernie is.
And Bernie is willing to take on fcking Donald trump. if hrc can't even face a relatively civil debate with Bernie about real issues, how will anyone be able to imagine her coping with going up against trump in the GE?
IF HILLARY HAD AGREED TO DEBATE SANDERS
THIS WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN HAPPENING.
Trump? Even if he loses the debate he wins something.

(36,988 posts)You haven't been paying attention or you chose to ignore his stance this election season.
Sanders will just say. once again. 'I don't want to hear about her damn emails''..... and emphasis on 'damn.'.
Remember that in a debate between Hillary? Even she appreciated it.
Sanders:
Ive been asked 5 million times about the emails, and I havent said anything, Sanders said in a brief interview before a rally here.
Ive been asked about the Clinton Foundation, didnt say anything.
Bill Clintons personal life? Never said a word. (sacbee.com)
Jeff Weaver on CNN: Bernie is not going to make a point about the State Dept IG's report.
He said that it's part of a process and they're going to allow that process to continue. The interviewer pressed him on it, saying the investigation is over, why not comment on it now, and Jeff replied that people can draw their own conclusions.
