2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThis could have the effect of a revolution occurring under the radar... just consider...
It looks like O is going to come out on top on Tuesday if all the indicators are accurate. Just think of what this says about our country.
The billionaires failed at buying the government of the people.
The cheating could not stand up to the actual vote.
The lying was unable to smother the truth and the ability to distinguish the difference.
The Tea Party will become obsolete.
Perhaps the Republican Party itself will be relegated to the history bin. (doubtful of that one, but who knows?)
The Supreme Court will be out of corporate control for the first time in decades.
There are more major ramifications to this election, so you can add your own .
But the point is this... If we re-elect Obama (as we damn well should), this election is very possibly a bigger revolution than the first one when we elected our first African-American president.

They're trying to buy the country at the lowest possible price. Just wait. They'll spend more next time. We must remain vigilant. They're not giving up.

(101,361 posts)and if they keep a filibuster in the Senate they'll block anything significant too. Will Harry Reid try to change the Senate rules? He's looked a bit more daring with his attacks on Romney, but I'm not convinced he'd try to end the filibuster - or that he'd be able to get the Senate to end it, anyway.

The Koch brothers are just the tip of the iceberg.
A counter-revolution, engineered in slow motion, occurred outside the temporal frame that's been presented by the corporate media. On TV, it's always "Now!" It infantilizes the masses. History is what happens outside the margins of the screen and past the printed newspage. Every issue on the table today has been there since 1970. Been there. Got the t-shirt. Their agenda: to repeal all Roosevelt-era legislation (TR and FDR!!).
Since Reagan, what amounts to the Standard Oil trust was resurrected and a lobby representing a bloc of western extraction industries dictates to Congress and the President how to vote, controls foreign policy and encourages the myths of social/cultural/historical revisionism that use fear to impede all progressive legislation.
After Reagan's inaugural, the nation's electrical grid was re-committed to using stripmined coal to power its boilers. All EPA controls of their ruinous practices disappeared along with Carter-era plans for rationally developing electrical power. The development of "TVA 2.0" a study of how the lower Mississippi Valley could be developed for hydroelectric power, called "Gather at the River," was shelved. All plans, gov't support for solar, wind, etc. got tossed on January 21st, 1980. IMHO, that's "The Empire " George Lucas has been referring to all along in the Star Wars saga.
Freedom from foreign oil, freedom from oil, freedom for all, freedom from all enemies, foreign and domestic depends on free energy.
We have just been given what's probably our final warning and it may be too late. As Pogo once said: "We have met the enemy...and he is us."
The Chinese are not our enemies. The Russians are not our enemies. We are our all own worst enemies, planet-wide. There must be a quantum leap in energy production that puts a stop to the burning of fossil fuel to keep us fed, clothed, etc.
The caloric production ratio of agribusiness in the developed world is +/- 17:1. Seventeen calories of oil energy (minimum) are required to produce one edible calorie. Multiply by 3 to get meat. Do
the math. (Arable land, water, fertilizer, tractors, harvesters, trucks, packaging, ads, your gas, cooking heat, etc. X energy required to operate each subsystem X people on the planet, then project that number out from today as a trend line on a log scale. See where we're going here?
We don't have time for a revolution and we don't have any more time for their counter-revolution.
We do need a design revolution. The computer- driven mass mind that is evolving right before our eyes just might save us. As Captain Jack Aubrey always said to Stephen Maturin: "There isn't a moment to lose!" We are all crewmembers on board this spaceship, mortal creatures on a tiny speck in a vast and infinite Universe.
That universe is driven by electromagnetic energy carried on vast plasma currents. The physics we are being force-fed is hogwash. The Big Bang is a creationist fairy tale. It keeps things like they are.
We can wake up or we can drown in our own bilgewater as the oceans heat up and the land dries out. Plant more trees. Trees make it rain. Make it rain trees.
Rebuild the railroads. Re-engineer the machine tools of the agricultural industry for the coming drought (solar-driven, drip-irrigated, modular greenhouse tents). Use the aero-space industry's global intellectual assets to create a real-time biospheric, oceanic, and atmospheric all-planet monitoring system that's available to all 24/7/365.
Malthus was dead wrong. There's more than enough to make all of humanity successful.
Peace. If it isn't love, it's fear.
Good luck and Godspeed!

(81,470 posts)It's not an outlandish idea at all. Mainly because we know these bastards HATE the New Deal because what they hate most is a level playing field. They want it always lopsided in THEIR favor.
Despite their many protestations through the decades, they don't believe in playing fair when big money and power are involved. They'll try to sneak, cheat, scam, and stack the deck wherever they can.
For all their yowling about the sanctity of competition, they really don't want to compete. They want to run the table, drive the competition out, and own it all.
Even though many of them are science-deniers and side with the religious extremists who deny Darwin and carbon-14 dating, they're remarkably Darwinistic in their economic world-view. Survival of the Fittest, Only, and Above All Else. They don't see why a single penny has to be spent helping the down-and-out. Because the down-and-out deserve to be there, and besides, the only way to get rid of strays is - don't feed 'em.
They regard ronald reagan as the greatest president since Lincoln, and FDR the worst, whereas most of us would see it completely the opposite way.
They are the Cursed. The Damned. And they deserve to be. Mammon-worshippers. Worshipping money and power more than anything. THEY'RE the rightful heirs of those whom Jesus drove OUT of the Temple.

This, I think, is key. This is the whole ballgame. And the more we hone in on this, the more focused and effective we'll be in fighting this movement that's gained so much momentum and clout in the last 30 years. Having been around long enough to see a lot of that '60s and '70s progress and social innovation (and being a VERY minor participant in one little backwash of it), I view what's happened in this country as manifesting the view that OSPREYXIV articulated above. That side of the aisle has been on a severely focused and well-thought-out long-term campaign to change the social structure and mindset of America. Look at how they want to roll back voting rights, women's rights, and Wall Street regulations. Back to the 1950s in some ways. Back to the 1929s in others. Back farther still in a few more. For those who fought for those reforms and who now see that fight coming closer than ever before to being completely up-ended, I'm glad to see someone else put this in writing. They DO want to get rid of the New Deal, that we in the '60s and '70s tried to expand upon. It's all part of their Satan's Thesis of "you're on your own," and "IGMFU" (I Got Mine, F-U) that is just abhorrent to me. I've heard them say this. Again and again! And it has to be fought. Again and again!
Sorry - I just get a little emotional about this stuff. Take it too personally. But thereya go.

(74 posts)Ptolemy and Aristotle based models on theory.
Science is not empiricism or fact collecting. It is the result of testing a model in a laboratory to determine if the results support observationally obtained information.
Mathematical models of the Universe based on one rhin assumption, that the Hubble red-shift must mean galaxies are moving away from each other are merely mathematical models. Hubble himself was never certain of the meaning of his spectrographic analysis of intergalactic sources.
LeMaitre et. al. grabbed it and ran.
COBE produced clear evidence that intergalactic space is inhomogenous. The galactic masses are arranged in globular clusters that are strung together "like tangled spaghetti." These structures are far older than the Big Bang theory could possibly allow. There are galaxies, even stars that predate the Big Bang.
Nothing supports the BBT except the assumption that the "red shift" exists. It is much more likely that intergalactic light from more distant sources appears more reddish because it has been attenuated by (undetectable) intergalactic clouds of molecular hydrogen. Plasma is most likely to be found in the hotter, denser regions. Most of spacetime is empty. There are nebular clouds of (mostly) hydrogen and helium, stellar incubation zones within galaxies and galaxies in formation.
What supports the theories of a plasma-based universe is the fact that we can plasma behavior in tabletop devices wh produce "plasmoids" that can be photographed, consistently reproduced in the laboratory and recreated using advanced super-computer driven models, photographic evidence that supports a non-gravity driven model. Those results are consistent with other observations that demonstrate how energy flows along magnetic field lines that entwine and collapse into vortices that are self-similar ( fractal) and scalar. This explains how the formation of electrons, our sun, the planets, galaxies and galactic structures come into existence for more adequately that any of the myriad proposals of astrophysics based on the thin reed that is BBT.
Not one of the ideas that have been put forth by the astrophysicists to support BBT has ever been proved by observed phenomena. Not. one. Dark matter, string theory, etc. Fundamentally BBT is wrong if for no other reason than the fact that it is a model based on an error in perception: none of the "objects" we can observe are objects, they are the result of processes that depend on the behavior of energy patterns that we have labelled as "points" or "particles" out of convenience because our minds evolved in a way that makes it hard to comprehend a world where everything is in constant motion. That was Einstein's big idea: relativity. Science has nothing to do with belief. It too is constantly changing. If it doesn't it stops being science and becomes a substitute for even more primitive explanations of what's going on.
This is not science denial but it is denial of a body of astrophysical theory I'm not alone in denying. Pick up any journal dealing with plasma physics or talk to someone other than an astrophysicist. Better yet, read about Hannes Alfven, the Swedish physicist whose work in magnetohydrodynamics that led to these realizations and resulted in the only Nobel acceptance speech that refuted the recipient's theory because he'd already come up with a better idea. Alfven was always a generation ahead of everyone else, always attacked, always exonerated. There a a lot ideas that began with him and were forgotten by opponent who later claimed them as their own when observations proven Alfven was right.
The gravity-powered models just don't work. I'm not denying science, I'm denying science fiction.

The Supreme Court will strike down the Voting Rights Act in its next session. (81,470 posts)You're spot-on about this, too. These assholes don't give up and they don't go away and gracefully admit defeat. If anyone doubts, just take Roe v Wade as just one example. The Supreme Court SPOKE. Period. And that was that. But not to these bastards. They started chipping away at that ruling, relentlessly. They put everything into it, looking for ANY way large or small, to whittle it down, defang it, get around it, muddy the waters about it, whatever it took.
And look where we are now? Maybe three days away from actually seeing Roe v Wade's protections COMPLETELY WIPED OUT. The ruling overturned. Done away with. All that progress and all that work and all that revolutionary change that made the difference for ALL women - down the drain. Because if wrongney wins, that IS what WILL happen.
Needless to say, we're glad you're here and we need you! We need every last one of us to make sure that DOESN'T happen!!!
Now get to work.

(69 posts)The day after the election the Democrats need to get to work on who to get running for House and Senate seats for the next election cycle........not to mention start to line up who will run for President when Obama finishes his term. There has to be boots on the ground all the time to fight against the money and coruption that the republicans have backing them up. Now is the time to start converting "normal" republicans and to shine the light on the others who, if given a chance would take away rights and freedoms of all to meet their religious and backward agendas. I, for one, refuse to go back to having the rich having dictatorship over my life and my children's lives and if we don't fight back in 20 years or less that is what this Country will look like.

(74 posts)They have their games, we have ours.
They are Bourbons who learn nothing, forget nothing. We have knowledge, they have power.
The reason we are sitting out here in the cold on the verge of starvation is that we cannot agree on a common agenda. Corporate propaganda, disguised as entertainment is used to divide and conquer. There's nothing complicated about it.
For that reason, we must realize that this struggle will never be over. There are no happy endings,
Hollywood bullshit is delusional, it deflects and disconnects us from genuine emotion reactions appropriate to the reality which is at hand in the here and now. Politics has become packaging and presentation. It is our job to understand what is really being said, not to fall for the grifters' spiel.
What is real? What's really at stake? Easy one. The Constitution. We're for it, they'd like to forget it.
Romney Republicans are deracinated, even more thoroughly hypnotized than chalk-lined chickens.
If not, they're double plus dangerous because only a super-cynical, uber-clinical sociopath can suspend disbelief on continual basis 24/7/365. For them "follow the money" is their mantra, not their motto. Our motto?
"Fair play, fair deal, fair share."
Maintain a constant state of suspicious alertness at all times. "What's in it for them?" More. Always more. Nothing more, nothing less. That's all.

This is nothing like a revolution. It's just a disappointment for the billionaires. They're still getting what they want, just a little less of it. Reelecting Obama isn't going to change the tax code, isn't going to get real Wall Street reform, isn't going to get a hell of a lot of things the people want and need, etc.. etc... Obama's not a revolutionary president, he's a centrist who compromises before negotiating even begins and he doesn't really get out and fight for the people. In the event of a stolen election, it will not mean that the revolution you describe, did not happen--but it means we face a much harder fight to establish it and that many people will feel their "revolutionary" efforts in fact make no difference and they'll get discouraged.
The Dems waited too long in dealing with election fraud---we needed the paper ballot push to begin in the House, with Democratic reps, at least two years ago, so that the news of fraud was a topic in all debates and squarely on the radar.

This could very well be something like a nasty remix of '50s McCarthyism, the Klan bombings of the '60s, and the King Riots in '92, and perhaps multiplied several-fold. It's not something I like to think about happening in real life, but it very well could be reality.
