A Bernie vs. Trump debate is akin to men telling women to leave the room while the men

discuss the major issues of the day. Such a debate would be raw, naked, White male privilege on display to the world.

--On edit--
There have been more than enough debates between Hillary and Bernie. The voters know each of them by now and have largely rendered their decision. There's no need for Hillary to debate Bernie at this point.

Bernie is NOT going to get the nomination. By even entertaining this idea, he's showing disrespect to Hillary, to the Democratic voters, and to women in general because he refuses to acknowledge her position. That is sexism pure and simple.

Did Hillary offer to debate John McCain in 2008?

That's writing a lot of extra meaning into it that just isn't there. Sanders is pulling out all stops to keep his campaign going. Trump wants more airtime. If Hillary wanted to set something like that up, she could also. It would take one statement from her campaign to make a 3-way debate happen, and news outlets would be frothing for it.

Yes it would kind of pointless but it's just someone trying to put a shot of energy into his campaign by debating, not another man, but the nominee of the other party. It's not sexist in any way. The only way it is sexist is that Bernie is a man. In that case, any man is automatically sexist for not being a woman. Is that what you are saying?

Before officially securing the nomination....and if that event had nothing to do with Sanders - rather they debated around him.....the Sanders supporters would lose their collective minds and burn up their keyboards.

The runner up agreeing to debate the republican presumed nominee is just an attempt at raising money for Sanders and it will serve as a spectacle for trashing the democratic front runner.

That his supporters don't see it for what it is, is just sad.

And you wonder why we don't just hand over the reigns of the democratic party to him. He consistently exhibits poor judgement that puts Sanders' needs first.

Thu May 26, 2016, 03:48 PM

Strategically deciding that she didn't need to debate Sanders a tenth time. It is a contest after all, one that's she's working to win. Strategically there's no need to spend a night at the end of his wagging finger. You can say that not agreeing to the last debate deprives the voters of a chance to get to know the candidates but that's rather disengenuous. In this digital age, the information is everywhere. And Sanders never really says anything different. (And that's to his credit. He's remarkable consistent in his message).

This is about Sanders deciding he's going to behave as though he is the nominee by participating in a debate with the republican nominee. It's thoughtless, and puts Bernie first in Bernie's mind. Because he would have raised money off of the appearance while simultaneously trashing the democratic front runner. You may find that behavior admirable. I don't.

As to the monarchy thing, I don't believe the reigning Queen of England had over 13 million citizens cast a vote for her.

Words have actual meanings. 'Voting' is not part of the definition of "monarchy".

Hillary can grow a spine and jump right up toa podium.

But we both know she won't. It's easiest to not debate and pretend she's the po victim just like always.

That isn't sexism, that just raw privilege on the part of Clinton.

Nice try, though. Can't wait to see the next talking point.

63. Nothing to say she couldn't join the debate if she chooses.

If the woman in the room chooses not to exchange ideas and argue their merits, that's for her to decide. To demand that everyone else shut up and sit down because she has no interest ... That's pulling the gender card in a very not good way.

You may be, and probably are correct that Bernie's window is closing. If we want his ideas out there to be considered, debated and discussed, then this is the time. I can truly say I do not appreciate the entitlement attitude that because she is the likely candidate, she should have a monopoly on ideas and platform to air them. That will keep us mired in the absolute impossibility of anything better ever. And if you haven't noticed, voters aren't too keen on that theme.

Hillary said she would debate and them backed out of it.

And Hillary is white. (in case you didn't notice, which it seems a lot of people haven't)

So it nothing but Hillary's display of snubbing and "it's my turn" mentality and has zero to do with race.

What a bunch of butt hurt over nothing.

Typical Hillary supporter poutrage. Nothing to see here, but plenty to roll your eyes at.

It's time for a winner to debate that loser Trump, and it seems Hillary isn't up to debating.

Hillary turned down Bernie's request. She doesn't get to complain that "oh I'm being ignored" when he goes to try and debate someone else. And neither do you. So quit dividing people, maybe? Nah, that'll never happen.

Bernie v. Hillary is a hell of a lot more substantial than that.

that old meme that women can't do the same job as a man can. She didn't want to debate and that's just a let down to women everywhere.

"...Bernie is NOT going to get the nomination. By even entertaining this idea, he's showing disrespect to Hillary, to the Democratic voters, and to women in general because he refuses to acknowledge her position. That is sexism pure and simple..."

is spot on.
