http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/bernie-sanders-supporters-file-emergency-injunction-calif-primary/story?id=39419096Look, it's one thing to not like the way a primary is set up, but to go to court and sue WHILE THE ELECTION IS GOING ON to change the rules is such a blatant slap in the face of the 'democracy' Bernie fans keep talking about. Do overs? Segregating people's votes?
This is disgusting behavior.

(145,332 posts)Sanders lost this lawsuit also http://www.ocregister.com/articles/primary-717076-hearing-voters.html
Attorney William Simpich argued in the filing that the process for unaffiliated voters to get a presidential primary ballot particularly those seeking to cast ballots in the Democratic primary contest between Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was too confusing and would leave many voters disenfranchised. He said at least two counties failed to notify some voters of their right to request a ballot to vote in the Democratic, Libertarian or American Independent Party contests.
Thousands of Californians are in imminent danger of being disenfranchised in the 2016 presidential primary election ending on June 7, 2016, and will continue to be shut out of the democratic process unless and until defendants reform their voting by mail practices, Simpich wrote in the filing on behalf of two voters, a group called the Voting Rights Defense Project and the American Independent Party.
Simpich had asked the court to extend the registration deadline to election day, but the response from U.S. District Court Judge William Alsup on Tuesday means the case will not be addressed by then.

(45,319 posts)COLUMBUS, Ohio President Obamas reelection campaign filed a federal lawsuit against Ohios top elections official Tuesday in a dispute over the battleground states law that restricts in-person early voting in the three days leading up to Election Day.
The lawsuit, filed in Columbus, follows a series of election-law changes that were passed by the states Republican-controlled legislature and signed by Gov. John Kasich (R).
Obamas campaign and other Democrats argue that the law unfairly ends in-person early voting for most Ohioans on the Friday evening before the Tuesday election while allowing military and overseas voters to cast ballots in person until Monday.

(29,718 posts)BS supporters had a year to handle their registrations and can request democratic ballots on election day. If they are so incapable of following any small rule and demand that they get extra dispensation to register on election day, too bad. I'm glad that the court case won't be heard before the election. This is not disenfranchising anyone.

(6,974 posts)And am hoping that this emergency injunction fails, because to my knowledge, there is no voter disenfranchisement gong on here, and as a California tax payer I don't want to pay for something that doesn't exist in the first place. Ballots have been mailed out. There are places to call if you're not sure about your voting status, about which party you belong to, when the deadline to register happens etc. Voter disenfranchisement should of course be taken extremely seriously, because there are too many cases of it going on in this country unfortunately. However, just because you don't like the way the primary is set up, then to want to change the rules in the middle of the stream like this?
Retrograde
(10,137 posts)of poll workers being given the wrong information, or people registering voters telling them incorrect things. However, the voting regulations - including how to get a Democratic ballot if you're a non-partisan voter - are on the Secretary of State's web site, and physical copies were mailed weeks ago to all households with registered voters. So it's not hard to check if you've been given bad information.
Run into a problem at the polls? Take your voter's guide, show the person working there what it says, and demand the correct ballot. If they give you a hard time, stand your ground and don't leave until you've at least been given a provisional ballot. And document what happened, and notify both the county registrar and the secretary of state: there is no plot to disenfranchise voters - and not following directions is not disenfranchisement.
And if you want to know what the SoS considers voting rights, see their web site

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A federal judge has rejected a lawsuit by a Bernie Sanders supporter who argued elections officials in California were robbing unaffiliated voters of the chance to vote in the states June 7 Democratic presidential primary.
U.S. District Court Judge William Alsup in San Francisco said Wednesday the Voting Rights Defense Project waited too long to request an injunction for radio and TV ads informing unaffiliated voters that they can vote in the presidential primary of the Democratic, American Independent and Libertarian parties.
The group had argued that county elections officials were failing to inform unaffiliated voters of that right, threatening to disenfranchise thousands of voters. Its lawsuit named California Secretary of State Alex Padilla and two county elections officials.
Padilla said the lawsuit was frivolous.
