2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHas Warren handled the primaries pretty much perfectly?
Been thinking a lot about Senator Warren recently, and I have to say, the more I do, the more I think she has found herself to be a serious player moving forward. She managed to stay above the fray, support many of Bernie's ideas, stay in the Democratic Establishment and Clinton's teams good graces. Take serious aim at Trump. In a horrendously divisive primary she may be one of the few figures that is still in the limelight that most people- al least on "our side of the aisle" have a lot of respect for. Is she- in whatever capacity- our best shot at a bridgebuilder? I can see many ways that could play out, but am I right in feeling she's navigated shark infested waters pretty flawlessly?

(2,902 posts)No. She got down in the mud with Trump, which hurt him.

(889 posts)Warren did not run in the primaries. She chose not to put herself through that grueling process, having to face voters in state after state. Nothing wrong with that, choosing not to run.
But IMHO, that disqualifies her from being our eventual 2016 nominee. It's either Hillary or Bernie. Pick one, Democrats.

(7,820 posts)Or the VP, for that matter. Not sure what the perfect role would be- a leadership role in the Senate? Cabinet? Working as some sort of liaison/bridge between the movement that comes out of the Sanders Campaign and the power brokers in the Democratic Party? Running in 2020 if Dems don't win the White House? It all depends on how November shakes out- it just strikes me she's in a very good place right now to shape things going forward.

(11,197 posts)from Hillary on policy though, and much more in line with Bernie Sanders whom I am guessing you despise from you posts. Do you agree with EW on her policy stances when it comes to average working folk and the poor, or do you side more with the Hillary camp that success and things like healthcare and such should only come as a reward for becoming successful through hard work and connections?
I'm really curious why you would post such a glowing statement on EW, and yet despise the flip side of the same coin.

(10,650 posts)She knows Hillary isn't a progressive and that Bernie is. But by not endorsing Bernie, she keeps herself viable with the Democratic establishment. Maybe it's a politically safe move, but it is hardly leadership and shows ZERO heart in the fight for the soul of the party.
That really tarnishes her progressive credentials.

(11,990 posts)I don't think it tarnished her progressive credentials, but it did confirm that she is a politician.

(10,650 posts)Politically, it is smart. Morally it's a failure.

(10,437 posts)really doesn't care if he helps trump...its all about bernie, his ego, and the microphone in front of him.....Warren has 10x the class that sanders has...and I don't see how sanders does anything positive for the democratic party come the general election as he is descending into the angry old rejected socialist....
he lost.

(458 posts)I agree with the previous post saying the same.
She is a phony progressive, in my eyes.

(2,117 posts)Exactly. Reality is different from the way your eyes are seeing it.

(2,117 posts)She knows that, in the real world, progress doesn't come in sweeping avalanches. Educated Americans understand that this is a system with checks and balances, which makes sweeping change pretty much impossible. Thus, progress comes in steps. This system also protects us from shitty right wing movements that would try to make sweeping changes in their direction.
If you don't like this system, you don't understand the basics of your own country.

(24,979 posts)Don't pretend I know for sure, but I do have an easier explanation for her lack of a stand than the platitude you served up. I mean, unless you've got a link to her talking in such a vague and pathetic, uncharacteristic fashion? I think more highly of her, despite her failure to act. I do.

(1,681 posts)So I know where she really stands. I think she's a very strong voice on some issues, but speaking out when your own people fuck up takes a lot more courage than railing against Trump.
