Give 'em Florida.

Give 'em North Carolina, Virginia and Colorado.

Heck, give 'em New Hampshire.

We - still - win

People waited in line this week anywhere between 90 minutes and 4 hours. Today the line at Miami Beach City Hall wrapped around the block - people waited on average 3-4 hours all day- and this was identical to what was going on in other early voting places. I would so love to see Florida be blue again. Yes we can. Please.

We live in America- the land of democracy- 4 HOURS- to vote=- on a 10 page ballot by the way- with amendments that really smart, college educated people could not understand just to frustrate voters. The league of women voters and three other groups pleaded with Scott for another day of early voting- just one more day- he said not a chance.

Information pamphlet the size of some publications, all sides covered, rebuttals, rebuttals to rebuttals. We are sent ballots to vote on everything, several times a year. Still we have the Rove and Koch monies coming in, the dark money, and they have talk radio.

Florida has been through hell, I'm not sure what the issue was that got Scott in there, but what a tragic thing to elect (if there weren't shenanigans) that crook. Was that duriing a bad hurricane year?

Hoping for Florida to get blue, stay blue and stay involved. it's not just every 4 years, everyone of those people standing there need to make a commitment if they can, to stay as involved as the pukes have been on every level of Florida governance. Let them see Democrats every time they turn around, let them hear that we are learning and listening.

This is going to be a long process to bring Florida and the other states back. I hope that Obama wins and you guys make your voices heard for the next twenty years. The pukes like Nordquist have this mapped out. We let them have it, then America is pretty done:

All we have to do is replace Obama. ... We are not auditioning for fearless leader. We don't need a president to tell us in what direction to go. We know what direction to go. We want the Ryan budget. ... We just need a president to sign this stuff. We don't need someone to think it up or design it. The leadership now for the modern conservative movement for the next 20 years will be coming out of the House and the Senate.

Pick a Republican with enough working digits to handle a pen to become president of the United States. This is a change for Republicans: the House and Senate doing the work with the president signing bills. His job is to be captain of the team, to sign the legislation that has already been prepared.
~ Grover Nordquist

Think of ALEC, all the legislation that has hurt us in every state and they want to nationalize it so there's no escape.

It is an odd place- so much potential- rich with culture- beautiful weather, mangoes grow here after all-- but jeez it is a bizarre state. Where I live is a sort of blue haven-and filled with ex New Yorkers- but elsewhere is a different story. And talk about opposites- we have the "redneck riviera" on one side (home of Joe Scarb), the unique and quaint Key West in another corner and then there's Miami. In between is everything- in between. And you are correct- it is going to be a long process to get Florida to turn blue and stay blue. This last generation of Cuban Americans - we call them the "Mariel Cubans" - or the "Elian crazies'- they are now mostly seniors and they are big time Republicans- not all but most. But their kids are much more progressive and tend to be Democrats- especially those who go to college. Not sure about the northern part of the state - the part that's more "southern". Anyway- yes we have a long way to go.

But it would sure be wonderful to have this be a blue year for Florida. It would indeed.

I have to believe that most of the people in line were Obama folks. Not all but most.
