2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIs the GOP is willing to pull the election fraud trigger for Romney?
I suspect they will prefer to "keep that powder dry" until 2016.
The usual tried, tested and mostly unchallenged voter suppression strategies will be used - mostly in states where the State AJ is a friendly Republican and are pretty sure that they can swing a few house seats without consequence. But I don't this is the election where they are willing to risk tabulation fraud on a large scale. They're just not that thrilled with their nominee. They'll save it for Jeb.

(22,143 posts)A Republican President is nothing but a puppet anyway. So yeah, if they could they would. I think they try all the time. I think they tried last time. But it isn't going to matter. President Obama won too big for them to steal it last time and he's too far ahead to do it this time. It would stink too badly for them to outright steal it.

(26,044 posts)Waiting until 2016 is a non-starter for the G.O.P. For one thing, Obamacare will have taken effect, and I doubt people will want to go back. Second, the economy should be in full "morning in America" mode by then, making the Democrats more popular. Demographic trends will favor the Democrats more strongly then as well. Finally, Obama will likely have the chance to nominate at least two SCOTUS judges, including at least one replacement for one of the conservatives. I suspect the Republicans know "it's now or never," and will lie, cheat, and steal accordingly.

(53,787 posts)It'll be too late in 2016. This was the last time the nearly whites-only Republican party could muster up enough votes to make a national election close enough to steal. By 2016 many of their base will, frankly, have died off and considering the changing demographics (browning) of the country, the remainder will be an even smaller percentage of the electorate. The numbers just don't bode well for them unless they figure out a way to appeal to minorities, and that's not likely. What's more likely is that there will be a split in that party as the sensible Republicans finally say "enough" and demand change away from the party's anti-women, anti-immigrant, anti-black policies that the teabaggers and holdover dixiecrats of yore have promulgated. Sorry, so sad. That's what losing will do for you.

(13,485 posts)Think how far they've gone with their crazy politics? They have gone as far as they can go and nobody is going to want to go that route again. They have blown the wad to the max and there is no farther they can go; it's already reached insane. If they don't grab the ring now, they never will get a chance again with this extremist republican forum.
I think they will go as far as they can right now. After they lose, they are done.
As far as election fraud is concerned, they are already the deer in the headlights. The investigations I understand, have already begin and the lawsuits are beginning to fly. They can't turn back. The only way out is for a Romney win so they can be exonerated.
