Check in if your PERSONAL welfare will be affected by a Romney victory

I don't mean that you will be emotionally devastated. We all will be.

I don't mean political judgments (Romney will blow up the economy, destroy the middle class, etc. - all true, but thats a different story).

I mean: if the Romney/Ryan concrete plans will definitely affect you in a big way.

I'll start:

I have a 26-year-old daughter who needs health insurance. She is unlikely to get it through her job, and has a classic pre-existing condition - minor, but she will never be able to buy individual health insurance Obamacare has already saved us $7000 (through the 1year extension of COBRA). Now, if Obamacare is repealed, it will force us to pay hugely to get health insurance for her. Plus we have relatives who are elderly immigrants and depend on Medicaid -which Ryan has promised to gut.

I estimate that a Romney victory will cost us at least $10,000 per year in health care costs.

And I am still one of the lucky ones compared to many people. I dont forget the truly unfortunate and needy people out there.

That's the difference between Obama and Romney. Obama's policies are not just abstract. They help a lot of us directly. Check in if you are one of them!

PS. Check in also if Romney policies will benefit you directly. Hard to imagine. (Perhaps someone here can say: "Obama will raise my taxes by $20,000 per year! Leaving me just $400,000 in after-tax pay to live on!! How can I survive???&quot

Romney will stack the Supreme Court with misogynist bigots that will harm women's lives for generation.

Romney has no budget: he will absolutely devastate the middle class in order to pay for tax cuts for his rich friends. He will tank the markets again.

No, it's not abstract at all. This guys is a catastrophe waiting to happen.

if he voucherizes Medicare and kills ACA.

I also think that Rmoney will take the stock market back to the days of BushCo 4 yrs ago when PBO took over. I was fortunate - I moved a lot of my money from stock funds to cash funds just before the big crash and saved most of my principal. I'm now back into the stock funds under PBO and recovered nicely with a goodly amount of upside.

I'm worried that if Rmoney wins - I won't be able to retire.

Though my Pre-existing condition isn't minor and I cannot possibly afford the costs right now except under the Pre existing condition insurance plan. If Obamacare is repealed, it's going to suck for me really bad. The good news is, the Senate should definitely remain Democratic and Reid will not allow it to be repealed. But who knows what tricks Romney would have up his sleeves.

a pre-existing condition in the eyes of our insurance. I have a grand daughter that is in her second year of college and two more that will be starting college in the next couple years. I also have a grand daughter that is career military and has served 4 tours in Iraq. She is a lesbian. The last thing she needs is a president that hates homosexuals but loves war and would would like to flex his war muscles.

I have to buy my own health insurance for the next 8 years before I can co on Medicaid. I can afford that, but if the ACA were repealed, these bastards could cancel me if I get sick (lifetime caps, etc). I have a screening procedure scheduled in a few weeks. ACA requires preventive things like this to be covered on the basic insurance policy.

I have some investments for retirement. I lost almost half of that when Bush's economy crashed. The last 4 years, these funds have recovered and then some. Historically the markets always do worse under Republicans. While most Wall Streeters will not say it publicly, the fact is that Obama has put the economy on a stead course, and will continue to give them the stability they are looking for. If Romney got his way with his policies I have no doubt the markets would collapse again.

Obama's moves for higher Cafe standards, green energy investments and the Cash for Clunkers program have actually reduced our national demand for oil. This has allowed gas prices to remain below Bush's peak even though we have a growing economy. Romney says he would kill the CAFE increases and the green energy investments.

When the economy improves in 2013-14 and Romney gets ALL the credit, and another 4 years; cutting wages for all companies so the CEO's can get a bigger bonus. That will affect me and everyone here.

When the water from our taps is undrinkable due the fracking well they will place near our homes...

When the Supreme court is 7-2 conservative for our lifetimes...

When we New York (that liberal bastion) is under water, it will affect me....

When we have to choose between food and medicine....

When ALL unions are a memory and that thing they used to have called 'manufacturing' are gone...

When the economy is the uber-rich with dividend income and the people that wait on them....

We might be personally affected. We just all might.

My middle son is going to college on Pell grants.

The former won't have medical insurance when he grows up if Mitt wins (preexisting condition), and the latter won't continue school.

Since he wants to dramatically slash the tax rate on high-income earners, but that doesn't mean that I would ever put my own self-interest over what's best for the country. I'm not quite at the 400k per year level, but I'm pretty close to being in the 1%. However, not that long ago, I was a grad student who was living off of about 10k per year, so I know, very much, what it's like to be poor.

And besides, I have a brother who is a police officer who would undoubtedly suffer, and a sister who has three young children. Her life is hard enough without the destructive policies that a Willard Rmoney administration would undoubtedly impose.

He's nine now, so apparently you don't need them. However, he has SERIOUS pre-existing conditions -- he was born with a congenital cataract, cornea transplant at six weeks, 10 hour skull reconstruction surgery at one year, cleft palate surgery, and scoliosis surgery every six months. By the time he was one year old, his medical bills had reached $2 million dollars. He's had 21 genetic tests (nothing wrong there) and right now he is insured by Aetna because his mother has group insurance through a law firm she works for. My son lost his job four years ago and became a stay-at-home dad. If my daughter-in-law loses her job, right now Obamacare is in place for the grandkid. With a Romney victory, all bets are off the table. And if anything happens to the grandboy because Romney didn't think Obamacare was worth saving, Romney better hope he never meets me on the street.

you bet I have a lot to lose. I have a small IRA which took a big hit in 2004 when the company I worked for filed for bankruptcy, bought by one of those vulture money companies, closed it and moved to Mexico. At 61 yo found a job paying less than half of what I was making. Then 2008 stock market/economy happened!!!!! Worked till I was 68 then retired because I simply could not work anymore. I have contempt toward republicans. I'm sorry but I wish we had FDR to vote for.

20. Romney/Ryan plan would put me in my grave
Sun Nov 4, 2012, 11:57 AM
Nov 2012

I am 45 yrs old with a life threathening pre-existing condition.I have a 9 yr old son with classic Autism and an 18 yr old daughter in college . If Romney/Ryan were elected my medicaid would be cut off leaving me unable to afford the medicines I take that will guarantee me life to old age, nor would I be able to afford to pay the specialist I see all of which medicaid covers for me. My son would regress with all his progress made with his Autism as Romney/Ryan would cut public school funding on top of medicaid covering his doctor that has been wonderful in working with him. My daughter would lose her funding for school . My husband buys his own insurance which recently went down a small bit in premium but as of yesterday he received a letter stating starting in 2013 all his diabetes supplies would now be covered under his individual insurance which took a big part of his income. Obama has been very good to my family . Under romney/ryan cutting medicaid i would have only 4-5 yrs to live without the medicines i take for my lungs and heart.
