2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIf Obama wins FL, OH, VA, or CO: Romney loses.
I can't find anyway Romney can win if Obama carries at least of of these states. Mittens would have to win in light blue states.
Florida and Ohio close at 7PM EST on Election Day, the race might be over already.
The map link below is based of off my interpretation of ElectoralVote.com. I assume Romney wins all light red and barely red states, along with all the swing states except CO which has the lowest EVs of the 4.

Obama wins with 272.
Overall, pretty good odds for Obama if you ask me.

(22,457 posts)is not as vital although it certainly makes it easier.
his most vital states are in order of importance:
1: FL
2: VA
3: OH
if he loses FL OR VA at the outset, he's DONE. its almost impossible for him to win the election without winning BOTH of those states.
OH is still important but there are still somewhat feasible ways for him to win without Ohio. but again, those feasible ways of winning without Ohio include him NEEDING to win FL and VA.
Virginia is going to tell us all we need to know early on. If VA goes Blue early, lights out....Obama wins.

(204 posts)goes for Obama, Romney is done and the evening will be relatively painless for Dems. We can rest easy. It will all be over except the crying, for the GOP. If you take VA out early, there is really no way for Romney to get to 270 with the remaining states. My fantasy is that Obama takes VA, CO, and IOWA, and we don't even have to wait to hear about Ohio. Although Ohio's polls close at 7, there is talk the results won't be in for days. I prefer for the election to be over even without any information about OH.
