@TB_Times: Breaking: #Florida extends early voting. Details soon at http://t.co/awucfj5S
No details there yet.
UPDATE: Apparently this is limited one or a few counties in Florida. I'm seeing conflicting reports.

Some voters had faced waits several hours long on Saturday, the last scheduled day of early voting. The judge ruled on a lawsuit filed late Saturday in Orange County after an early voting site was shut down for several hours. The Winter Park library was evacuated when a suspicious package - a cooler - was found outside. It was later detonated by a local bomb squad.
Bill Cowles, the Orange County elections supervisor, said that voters who show up on Sunday will be asked to use a provisional ballot because the Republican Party of Florida had appealed the decision. The extra hours will be offered at just the Winter Park library.
The state party also filed a federal lawsuit Sunday morning seeking more voting time in Palm Beach, Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

(4,982 posts)While state law does not permit Early Voting on Sunday, the elections department is permitted to provide and accept absentee ballots.
In honor of the Early Voting hours offered on the last Sunday in 2008, voters can go to the Elections Department in Doral at 2700 NW 87th Avenue to vote by absentee ballot from 1pm-5pm.
The elections department said any voter who shows up in the allotted window will be able to vote by absentee ballot. The voter did not have to request an absentee ballot ahead of time.
Any voter in line at 5pm will be allowed to vote.

(26,044 posts)The whole point of Sunday early voting was the "souls to the polls" drive, with members of AA church congregations being driven to polling places directly after church. It is literally one of the heaviest times for minority turnout all election season By extending hours at this late hour, it makes that impossible. In other words, mission accomplished.

Florida Democrats file lawsuits over early voting
ORLANDO Florida Democrats are going to court to get several counties in the state to offer more time for voting before Election Day.
The Florida Democratic Party filed a federal lawsuit Sunday seeking more voting time in Palm Beach, Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Those counties were dealing with waits of up to six hours on Saturday, the last scheduled day of early voting.
The party has also filed a separate lawsuit Saturday in Orange County after an early voting site was shut down for several hours. The library was evacuated when a suspicious package was found outside

(44,973 posts)will be asked to use provisional ballots at Orange county because republican party is appealing-that's no good. They need to get on this ASAP.

(5,935 posts)In both Pinellas and Hillsborough, elections offices opened this morning for voters to access "over-the-counter" absentee mail ballots that they can request, fill out and hand in on the spot. (If actually mailed, the ballots risk not arriving in time to be counted by Tuesday, election day.)
Early voting in all but name, the practice is being encouraged by elections supervisors despite the state's elimination of early voting on the Sunday before elections, a day that historically has seen heavy voting by minorities, particularly African-Americans who vote with their church congregations.
