2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI feel like my voting will actually make a difference this year.
I moved to Iowa last fall from Illinois. I voted in my first General Election in 2008 (obviously a straight blue ticket), but Obama was a lock in that state and is this year as well. Being able to vote for him in Iowa where he is tenuously ahead in the polls makes me feel like my vote will matter here much more than it did in Illinois. Also, I get to vote against Steve King!

(7,820 posts)and very cool that you get to vote against Steve King. OTOH, even though I'm in CA, I always feel like my vote makes a diiference. It may not be definitive on the Presidential level (friggin' electoral college) but there's a ton of down ballot stuff.

(461 posts)California uses the Prop system well, but ubfortunately Iowa does not. There is a vote to retain IA SC Justice Wiggins (I will vote to keep him) since he was one of the votes to legalize gay marriage in Iowa a few years ago. Other than that, I am interested in local office votes here.

(1,140 posts)You are in the Red area, I grew up in but you are not alone here.
We are the first state to have Biracial marriages which led the path to Gay marriage. The old Repugs & baptist hate it, they are loud mouths but the minority.
The weird thing about Iowa-Liberals & Repugs hunt and own guns.

Oh- Iowans always vote for who is popular-who they think is a winner because 1 miilion are dems, 1 million are rep, 1 million are independent. Remember that when you talk to an independent-they always support a winner.
