2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumClinton lawyer to FBI: Clinton is under NO legal obligation to give interview.
https://twitter.com/DavidShuster/status/737767341577080832Can you trust anything ever to come out of Hillary's mouth? Remember when she said her email server was allowed by the State Department? Or when she said she was "fully cooperating" with the State Department? Or the FBI was conducting "security review"?
She is changing her tune to "happy to talk to FBI" to I don't have to. Indictment or not, this FBI report will be devastating to her.

She should because it will tell the story to a lot of people that she would if she didn't have anything to hide. Even if she didn't, it will look like it. she has never been good on optics.

She'll answer questions as appropriate. She just won't fall into the trap of playing their game.

She'll answer hostile questions for 11 hours straight. And when she does, THEY lose.

(27,787 posts)... questions.
Every question you answer becomes another thread they can pull.
If they have evidence of a crime, they should charge you with that crime. And if you answer questions, only do so if you think it helps you clear things up.
But if you think answering some questions opens you up for more allegations of silly nonsense. Its not worth doing.
Let them scream that you won't just tell them what they want you to say.

(26,549 posts)Starr's investigation was running out of stuff to investigate. He was down to a few outstanding subpoenas, such as the Rose Law Firm billing records. Eventually they were found.
Nothing nefarious in those records, but Clinton hid them for several years. If she had turned them over when they were subpoenaed, Starr would have been out of material before he found Lewinsky.

(14,308 posts)Here's the NY Times story on how they came to be found in the White House after they had been subpoenaed for two years. Don't know if Hillary has ever changed her account which at the time was that she had no idea how a subpoenaed document got into the White House.

(29,280 posts)To give her "cooperation" more of a sheen, like she'll come out on Thursday and say of course I'll talk to them, that was just my legal team telling me I do don't have to.
She is measuring every step at this point. She has to do something to look a little better in advance of Big Tuesday. This is one way to help a little. What would not help is looking like you're not going to cooperate. So if she were not going to assent to the interview she would just be dragging out negotiations for one more week, easy to do on her traveling schedule. Or one step beyond, she could play it like she's going to do the interview and then think better of it next week.
