Anecdote from the field: Catholic Priest from my very red hometown all but endorsing Obama

I just spoke to my Mother this morning about the canvassing I have been doing today in Virginia. She still lives in St. Louis, Missouri, which as you know, is a red city in a red state.

She, unprompted, told me how her priest gave a sermon this morning about how you should love your neighbor just as much as yourself, and if you follow that ethos at the polls, you may choose one candidate, whereas if you only want good things for yourself (lower taxes, more money injected into your industry, etc.) you have the choice to select another candidate. Basically the choice was painted as, which candidate is the most Christ-like? No names were ever mentioned.

I heard her tell this story and it made me so proud. I hope a few people walked out of that mass and thought long and hard about whom they will cast their ballot for.

I didn't realize that! I guess I automatically assumed that based on all the very "red" neighbors/conversations I've had there.
