2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumClinton's inherent contradiction: "I don’t want any risk of the personal being accessible.”
That now well-known email quote is perfectly understandable. Nobody wants all their personal emails out there for the world to see.
Yet she also knows that the government requires access to--and the public is ultimately mostly entitled to see--her work correspondence. She can't claim ignorance of that.
So, if you (a) KNOW your work emails are supposed to be accessible to the public, and (b) also consider it a high priority that your personal emails are NOT accessible to the public, then the very stupidest thing to do would be to mix your personal emails with your work emails. Assuming Hillary is not that stupid, that leaves you with the alternate explanation that she did not intend for people to have access to her work emails.
ETA: Since people have posted things to the effect that the seriousness of her problems will largely hinge on proving intent, my point is that this lends credence to the perspective that she was acting with the intent of avoiding public disclosure (FOIA).

She might win the nomination, but at what cost to the party and to the nation, we do not yet know.

Imagine the stress she was under having to decide how to classify things like that.

Just Dumb. But that combo of Dumb and Pride/Entitlement has ended up being the reason we are now actually seeing what was going on behind the scenes. Had she had the foresight and effectiveness to manage her email, we'd all still be in the dark.
