2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumVoter suppression on Univ. of South Florida campus . . .
This was posted on the Facebook wall of my daughter's close friend: "I was almost the victim of voter fraud. My second week at this school, these people who (to my defense) looked quite official, like they were affiliated with USF, approached me in the busiest part of campus, the Student Center. They talked me into changing my voter registration to Hillsborough County, because it would be more convenient than going home on election day and then coming right back. I hadn't requested an absentee ballot or anything, so this seemed like the obvious thing to do. I found out last week that they aren't connected to the school at all - they're an organization that targets people who are likely to be registered Democrats and convinces them to fill out a form that looks like you're switching your county, but are actually invalidating yourself from voting. It pulled me off the list in Hernando County, and blocked me from the list for Hillsborough. We sorted it out, so I was able to vote with an absentee ballot. But still. The fact that there are people singling out Democrats and making it difficult/impossible for them to vote is sickening. I would've been absolutely devastated if I wasn't allowed to vote because of this."

(5,942 posts)a Republican effort. I believe she said something about someone registering as Adolf Hitler and voting for Obama this year and closed by commenting that this young woman shouldn't have called out an entire mass of people (Republicans) because of one small group's actions. Yeah, that's the way to commiserate with a friend, right - make them feel even worse?
