Red State Blue State - This American Life

(What a show! The segment on on what's happening within the g.o.p. in New Hampshire is something to behold! - btg)

478: Red State Blue State
Nov 1, 2012
Politics have divided our country to the extent that the two sides not only disagree on the solutions to the country’s problems, they represent two different realities. This week we hear from people who are intimately familiar with this rift. They’ve lost friends. They’ve become estranged from family. They've watched civility cede to skirmishes. Our political civil war and its consequences: a special pre-election episode.

The red state-blue state stuff? I hate it. The labeling itself is divisive IMHO.

...the election of JFK and the belief by the GOP that the election was stolen by the Democratic Party. This was the beginning true GOP dirty tricks engineered by Richard Nixon and his GOP supporters. This has escalated to the deliberate voter suppression tactics we've been seeing since 2000.

In spite of the title, it's still worth listenting to.

who threatened to refuse me food while seated at his dinner table, over who I voted for, I would berate him for acting so juvenile, and I would tell him that he needs a time out. I would not go to his home after some time has passed. Like when Congress has negotiated some kind of debt reduction plan with the administration. Reducing the deficit would be dealt with in better time than the Iraq War under the de facto unilateral authority of G.W. Bush.

I am bothered by the Blue State - Red State dichotomy. Being from Missouri, I thought that we are supposed to be a swing state. Here in St. Louis, I'm surrounded by Liberals at work and the neighborhood. Although, I don't discuss politics with my family.
