Lead Plaintiff Against Affordable Care Act Files For Bankruptcy Because Of Medical Debt

Mary Brown just doesn’t want to be forced to have health insurance.

…[she] was uninsured last fall when her husband’s medical bills stacked up to $4,500. That, combined with other debt they had accumulated, led the couple to file for bankruptcy:

She is challenging President Obama’s health care plan because she vehemently opposes it.

You just can't make this stuff up. Bet she's another proud teabagger...

Our bankruptcy wasn't because of medical debt directly; however, had we let our private insurance lapse while I was on unemployment, we might have been able to avoid bankruptcy, for now, run up a shitload of medical debt while we were not on health insurance since the wife and I have chronic medical conditions. UC and GERD for me. High blood pressure and hypothyroidism for her.

It amazes me as well. If the bottom 90% aren't in control of the government, making it work in our interests...you can be sure the 10% are making it work in their interests. That fundamental fact seems to be lost on the typical middle-class Republican voter. They seem to be determined to empower the 10% at their own financial expense. But, if they ever have this epiphany...maybe when 80% of the country gets on the same page politically, we can finally take our country back.

if we get enough votes to get passed the filibuster. Obviously the Repubs in congress have no desire to pass an amendment that would fix stupid. Get Out The Vote!

from the folks she's trying to protect. I don't get people who continually do things against their own interests. How embarrassing for her having been so vocal, and is now an unfortunate victim. I wonder how her most vociferous supporters will feel about her taking the bankruptcy route? I wonder if we'll hear about "personal responsibility" from that crowd?
