A group of rabble-rousing Bernie Sanders supporters from New York is headed for the Democratic National Convention next month as hand-picked, at-large delegates -- and theyre threatening to make trouble for Hillary Clinton at the very moment she hopes to make history as the first female nominee of either party and unite Democrats for the coming battle with Donald Trump.
Some 20,000 protesters are reportedly planning anti-Clinton protests outside of the convention hall. But interviews with members of Sanders New York delegation reveal that supporters of the Vermont senator are also considering bringing some of those protests inside the Wells Fargo Center itself raising the prospect of an embarrassing spectacle on prime-time TV.
These are not the kind of people who just fall in line.
Sarsour said she wants concessions in the party platform on a $15 minimum wage, an acknowledgement of Sanders plan for a single-payer health-care system, super robust language prioritizing immigration reform, and a discussion of the Israel-Palestine conflict in which she said America has not been an honest broker in the conflict.
If she doesnt feel there was movement on her issues, Sarsour said she will have a hard time encouraging voters to support Clinton over Trump. You cannot win without the Bernie revolution, she said. Ive visited 20 cities over the past five months, and the Bernie or Bust movement is real.
The energy we've seen this year isn't going to go away. It seems the DNC is reluctant to concede to the movement, so I suspect a lot of this energy is going to flow into movement politics and activism rather than electoral politics.

And while I won't be in Philadelphia, I sure as hell support those protesters outside Or inside the convention hall.

(46,179 posts)I was just reading an article about the New Jersey primary. I think I was remembering something a DUer said to me awhile back; a threatening post that said something along the lines of "if Sanders supporters think they'll show up to protest here, they don't know Jersey; we won't tolerate them."
Of course, I haven't been east of the Rockies since 1967. IIRC, Jersey and Pennsylvania share a border, and Philadelphia is right on that border. So I guess those aggressive Jersians who want to fight with Sanders supporters at the convention don't have to go far.

(37,549 posts)Because on both ends Jersey is the state that you pay to leave.

I'll vote for hill if I absolutely have too but it will be a protest against tRump vote not a willing vote for hill. Sorry but my 15 months in country Vietnam taught me one damn thing and that it matters who is the leader. She is not a leader but rather a follower. I'm talking about following the money that is. Thats where her allegiance lies.
In my view only a fool can't see that for what it is. But then again thats My Humble Opinion.

(30,481 posts)While minor concessions should be made that is one heck of an absolute statement. Clinton won. A majority of the concessions will at the direction of her coalition, as they should.

(110,159 posts)Why do they think this serves them. The nation is literally laughing at them, rolling their eyes, dismissing them, their childish behavior in a grown up world. They have ignored their entertainment factor the last year of burst of tantrums not being effective adn turning people off, creating ridicule. Yet here they are, losers, looking like fools earning the disgust of the nation. Just along with the Trump crowds, giving a full few of a nation of privilege and entitlement.

I'd rather lose without trolls like Sasour than win with troll like her.
