2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThis delegate double standard is crazy. Clinton gets the same rules Obama had.
There's no debating it. There's no amount of hand wringing, crying, moaning, complaining, anything that changes that undeniable fact.
The pledged delegate leader will get the most votes at the convention. That's the standard that Obama had in 2008 and it will be the standard this year. Period.

(15,810 posts)...he just had to deal with Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Bill OReilly, the KKK, Aryan Nations, the American Nazi Party, numerous white supremacy groups, Fox news, Americans for Prosperity, and all the rest of the ignorance-rooted Republican base created by Reagan, not to mention the vicious vituperative faction against him within the Democratic party (as evidenced in all of its glorious ugliness right here on DU, lasting until after his election). But whatever.

(42,779 posts)How many of the previously announced Clinton super delegates rescinded their commitment since then? How many new super delegates announced for Clinton since then.
If the announcement of the FBI investigation hasn't reversed or even slowed Clinton's support from super delegates for the last four months, its not going to suddenly be reversed because of anything Sanders says.

(12,233 posts)Honestly, she may reach the threshold and become the winner of the primaries, but I doubt highly that she's winning in the GE.
Trying to frame this as a man vs woman thing is absolutely disgusting. And it's been made rather VERY clear this primary, that the establishment and the DNC doesn't represent the people, they represent their corporate donors... They may give out friendly social ideals, but God forbid they actually create a trade deal that strengthens workers or makes corporations pay a living wage.
Obama and Clinton were very much alike with regards to policies and donors. There was the Hope that there could finally be a Change... With Bernie, people know they have a real fighter for real people in the White House... And who can appoint heads of depts and the Suprem court. He would make a huge difference in people's real lives. Clinton won't.
Quite frankly, if that's the best women have to offer to the executive branch for the first time ever, I'm embarrassed to call myself a woman!!!!

The HRC declared SD don't have to switch and Bernie can make his pitch.
If Bernie could actually succeed in getting the rehired number of HRC SDs to switch to him it would stunning.
I say let Bernie work the process as long as he wants and this will be over soon.

(34,185 posts)It's really a beautiful thing when you reflect back on other promising candidates Hart, Kucinich, Dean, and Edwards how to bow out early.

(34,185 posts)And the leftier side of the party probably won't speak much of him either except with fondness for fighting hard for a good cause. There will be others who will pick up where Bernie left off. We will learn from Bernie's mistakes and vulnerabilities and do better next time. Fortunately, there will never be another HRC.
But then again, its not really about Bernie the way Hillary is about her supporters. I think that is a function of the identity politics game.

(110,159 posts)whatever he wants. But, he does get to pay the price for that, too.
No demanding he can do whatever, and we are suppose to still respect him. Not the way it works, even if as special as Sanders seems to think he is.

(24,689 posts)There are good reasons that a candidate who is far ahead is declared the nominee prior to the convention.
To give the presumptive nominee some breathing room and prep time for the convention and to allow for the party to begin to rally around the nominee and provide some momentum going into the convention. If Bernie really cared about the Democratic Party nominee winning he would bow out Tuesday evening.

(34,185 posts)And also it allows the conceding party to receive something from the would be winner.
For example, HRC needed Obama to help erase $12 million dollars in personal debt before conceding. They agreed on the quid pro quo.
I don't know what HRC could offer Bernie.
