Benghazi - an anecdote from canvassing

an anecdote from the field.

I always canvass my neighborhood.

I talked to a fellow yesterday, 50ish. Nice, genial guy, knew I was politicking and came out to talk to me. Had four dogs in the yard, one named "Ammo" so by his nature and his pet's name, pretty safe bet that he is a VET.

Wife is not political, so won't vote. Has two daughters who will straight party vote D.

Say's to me, "I am going to vote all D downticket, but I don't know about President now. I was all set to vote for Obama, but Benghazi is really bothering me." He clearly had been getting the Faux News version, and was really upset how they sat on their hands for 8 hours and let it happen.

I asked if I could make an argument, and he said absolutely. I asked about OBL, and if the President hesitated. He said no, and he was happy about that. I brought up the Somolian Pirates, and asked if the President hesitated to protect US citizens. He had not remembered, but said, that was true. I said, I think there is some bad information out there about benghazi, and I can't see any possible way this president would sit back and let our folks be harmed if there was anything he could do about it. His record on this stuff is pretty clear.

I then said, and lets be honest, Mitt Rommey is a flat out POS. He just sort of nodded in agreement.

I let it at that. I think he will get it right tomorrow, but this is an example of how republican's turn things into complete shit to get people on the margins.

Knowing how the polls are trending, I feel OK. I live in a more R area. The media keeps wanting to spin the republican energy into enthusiasm FOR Romney. That is not the case at all. I can count one hand the number of a couple of dozen Rs who I have flat said Romney is a POS to who pushed back. The energy is all in their ginned up hate of the President, not FOR Romney. For the most part, the Ds I canvased have more of a quiet resolution to support the President.

There almost always is going to be more energy going AGAINST something than for something. So the rabid hatred for this President is more palpable. But, the actual support FOR the President is greater than the support FOR Romney. They still have the "edge" for sure. But, it seems that folks will get out and do what needs to be done to get Barrack Obama another term.

Too bad there's not a way that the truth can reach these people as effectively as the mainstream media lies reach them.

At least you did your part. Thank you.

My mom was a rock JFK democrat, was involved with the county party.

She hated Reagen and was just a solid dem.

In the late 80s/early 90s, she got into cable news, CNN.

In the late 90s, she slid to Faux.

Now, she was low grade altheimers by then, and was pretty full into it the time she died in 08.

But, I remember having lunch her in 04, and she just unloaded how disgusted she was with the democrats and specifically Howard Dean with that scream. I was shocked she had taken it hook, line and sinker.

People can become vulnerable, and the disinformation just sinks in for them.

is to point out what Bush's mismanagement prior to 9/11 and then the Iraq war-- thousands of times worse than anything Obama is even ALLEGED to have done at Benghazi, and the GOP says shit about those catastrophes. Fuck them.

Seems like DU went to sleep on this one...

Cosmo - glad you brought up the Pirates...thats a great example.

FOX has created the impression that Obama left active duty personnel to die...or was afraid to engage.

nit -wit & the ditz always frame things as questions Don't you think? etc....gets you going
Seems a bit benign if your not up to the tactics. They shout down quests & try to be-little them. I love how one of Murdochs papers would plant a story and Fox would link back to it as a source.

we have other media outlets picking up the same crap, the "moderate" networks, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS.

Our media does this country a huge disservice. Truth doesn't matter. Investigating for the sake of truth and facts doesn't matter and the disinformation and ridiculous speculations spread out to an even larger audience.

It's not just Fox, it's ALL of them.

to be fair crape - the right wing can scream about anything, and they feel they have to validate it.

But, I think that most of the halfwits truly don't understand what happened.

parading McCain to talk about his committee he has put together to investigate Benhgazi and he sounds like a doddering old fool. It is shameful and highly unamerican what they are doing.

Yes, good old John, on Morning Joe calling for a congressional investigation on Benghazi.....hmmm, it's time for us to start screaming for a re-opening of the McCain part in the Keating 5 scandal. It's the American and patriotic thing to do. Let's remind all the red staters out there how our current economic situation started way, way back. Let's show them how "patriotic" (per the repigs) it is to fleece hard working Americans of their life savings.

I am worried though, that the repigs are trying to set this up as an issue (really a non-issue) to bog down a second Obama administration. Remember what they did to Clinton? They want to stop Obama's second term before it even gets started. We gotta fight back with everything we have.

they are going to hang a VERY big hat on it.

It is something that is just vague enough that the dimwitted "liberal media" can't understand, so they just sort of nod and let the wingers scream their heads off.
