2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumVirginia going BLUE!! Go Obama!
I'm totally 100% sure Virginia is going blue! Don't sweat it - all my friends are voting Obama even though 2 were in the hospital last time. No one is voting GOP but the rednecks and they have been moving south a lot lately. Less rednecks = MORE DEMOCRATS!!!

(3,003 posts)If we can win Virginia, that will really help take some pressure off of us winning Ohio. While I believe we will win Ohio, I'm concerned the provisional ballots could end up providing us the margin of victory, and we all know that provisional ballots won't be fully-counted for several weeks. I don't think I can handle the suspense for that long!
OBAMA-BIDEN 2012!!
Have a good night's sleep!

(28,394 posts)Why do the polls close so darn early in VA? I know that there are a lot of commuters who work until 5:00. Will they have time to sit in traffic and still get to the polls before 7:00?
Did VA have early voting?

(879 posts)showed up at 5:30, probably about 50-100 people in front of me in line. Polls opened at 6, very efficient set up, was out of there in 15 minutes. When I left, the line stretched around the block (which is good because this is where Obama needs to run up a margin).

(879 posts)I had ever voted in Virginia. I used to live in Florida and voted there in 2008. I have to say, the operation in Virginia is light years ahead of that in Florida. Efficient and easy. Vote on a paper ballot, slide it into a machine, it tells you if it read it or not, and if not, rejects it so you can fix it right there and have your vote counted. In Florida, we had these touch screens where we voted into a black box, but the ballot itself just took forever to go through, scrolling multiple pages, then having to review your selections at the end. And, obviously, you had to wait for an available machine while in Virginia, they just direct you to a cubicle with a pen in it.
EDIT: I do remember the people behind me in line saying the line looked worse (meaning longer) than in 2008, but I just overheard their conversation and it is anecdotal, so take it with a grain of salt.

(11,617 posts)It's a shame that 12 years after the 2000 election Florida can't get their act together. At least you're somewhere more voter friendly now.
