Free Republic's Security Blanket: Washington Examiner Predicts Large Romney Win

I put on a hazmat suit and ventured over to the free republic (and the site was actually working!) and our friends over there have coalesced around an article from the washington examiner, where some old white guy named Michael Barone, predicts that Romney won't just win but he will win in an epic upset. Why, you might ask? Fundamentals! What fundamentals? Well its hard to say but Romney's got 'em!

Yes, this drivel from an ultra right wing, free newspaper that most people have never heard of, says that Romney will win. Just because. The details are as to how or why are unimportant.

And this is what the good people at the free republic are wrapping themselves up tightly in tonight. Not the state polls, which show a large obama advantage, or the national polls, which show obama with a small but solid lead, and not the experts, that say Obama is on the eve of winning a second term. NO! Romney is going to win because, you know, fundamentals

I went over to the free republic earlier today and everyone seemed so confident. Romney is going to win! At first I seriously wondered "what do they know that I don't?". Did they have some kind of poll showing Romney surging in the final hours? Did they have early voting numbers that showed Romney had taken the lead? Did they have some kind of objective analysis to show that the polls are off?

Nope. Every one of them, with their predictions of a "landslide" and "double digit Romney victory!" all boil down to "I got a feeling...". They are not basing this on anything objective. They aren't basing it on statistical analysis or any kind of expert opinion, its all about what their gut says will happen. It is things like "I've looked around and realized Obama can't win" or "everyone I talk to agrees that Obama is terrible." It is, in the end, all based on delusion. It is based on an America that does not exist. They have nothing other than a leap of faith.

I would feel bad for them if they weren't such assholes.
