1. Last rally of his own career (he'll campaign for other candidates in the future).
2. Iowa is the state that launched him to the Presidency. They both spent a lot of time working their asses off in Iowa when everyone said they had zero chance to win. They have a ton of respect and love for the people of Iowa.

and how it all started. Knowing that this was his last campaign rally. The turnout for that event was 10x the size of most towns I've lived in (I mean 10x the population of most towns I live in.) Had to be overwhelming for him.

We have been so blessed to have them in the White House.

As for tears, President Obama can usually bring both hubby and me to tears, you know? There must be something about having waited our whole lives for this moment, and for the circumstances (like the GOP swearing to obstruct his every move) to be so hard on Obama, and the way he seems to handle it with such grace.

We've been blessed. May it all go well tomorrow, for the country still needs him.

Tue Nov 6, 2012, 03:19 AM

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm sure it's class all the way.

You probably remember that I had my problems with this administration and know that I will be holding our President's feet to the fire again, come the second term, but I fell in love with the candidate Obama in 2008 and I now remember why - he and his family have a strong and true moral compass. It comes out with President Obama when he goes back to being candidate Obama.

I'm glad he is going to get a second term and I hope and pray that he chooses to create a greater legacy than that of being the first black President. He has the opportunity to be one of our greatest Presidents ever and to paraphrase MLK Jr., that will be because of the content of his soul, not the color of his skin. I want that for him and I want that for all of us. I truly believe he is so much better than he allowed himself to be in the first term. I also recognize that he was hamstrung by an actively hostile Congress. I am hoping that he gets a Congress that will work with him. I know I've donated much money and quite a bit of time to that hopeful possibility.

Now, First Lady Obama, she never compromised. She is a stalwart, strong, loving woman whose moral compass points due north, always. She takes my breath away. She always has. But then, she hasn't really had to swim in the cesspool that is American politics, much. But, even when she does, she swims with grace and strength and conviction.

And then, there are the children. You have only to look at Malia and Sasha to know that they have an amazing family (this includes their maternal grandmother, who is as uncompromisingly strong and moral as her daughter is).

So whatever problems I have had and may have in the future with our President, I promise to remember that as human beings, this family, including our President, is awe inspiring to me. May I be even half as true and solid and good as they are.
