2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumYou know what I hope for this whole Chris Christie "transformation"?
I don't hope (or think, for that matter) that he becomes a Democrat. I think he is far more valuable to us in the Republican Party.
I would LOVE for someone like Christie, who CLEARLY has no problem speaking his mind, to take CONTROL of the Republican Party. Maybe with some sort of moderate coalition involving Michael Steele, Andrew Sullivan, David Frum, and Colin Powell-types (none of these men specifically; just that rare type of endangered species...moderate [or at least SANE] Republicans). And before I go any further, PLEASE don't get me wrong... I realize all of the Republicans that I just mentioned not only have faults, but CRITICAL ones at that (bordering on [and perhaps crossing over TO] criminal in some cases). That's not really my point.
I would like to see them RUN the Teabaggers out of favor, out of Congress, out of the party altogether. I'd love to have an opposition party with whom I simply disagreed, instead of this current crop of Teapublicans that I ABSOLUTELY LOATHE with every fiber of my being for their anti-woman, anti-immigrant, anti-(fill in the race), anti-science, and frankly anti-HUMAN viewpoints and policies that harken back to the Middle Ages. Make the MODERATE Republican the NORM again.
Because, let's face it: if President Obama and the Democrats are able to pull out a victory tomorrow (and believe me, I have the champagne and vodka on ice), there will be absolute Civil War within the Republican Party between those screaming that the extreme Teabaggers (see Akin, Mourdock, et al) cost them the election, and the Teabaggers screaming back that Mitt wasn't conservative ENOUGH. This scenario ALONE opens the door for moderate Republicans to start claiming back some power.
Hurricane Sandy showed the TRUE power of bipartisanship, but bipartisanship can ONLY work with moderate Republicans. That's the kinda of "bipartisanship" that doesn't make me want to ram my head through a brick wall. I think it turned a spotlight on the TRUE nature and TRUE power of REAL bipartisanship, and what that word actually MEANS.
The END game here, for me I guess, is that it would just be nice to see a shift of power toward the LEFT for a change, instead of a constant tug to the right.
I can dream, right?
PS. GOBAMA! Get the HELL OUT AND VOTE if you haven't already! Drive people to the polls! Phone-bank! LET'S DO IT!!!

(2,012 posts)My worry is that the bigger these Teabaggers become, and the more BOLD, the larger likelihood that we start getting Teabaggers in more prominent positions. I'd rather put that damn fire out NOW.
And if that works, then SWEET!
