From the CWA (Communication Workers of America)
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The effects of the hurricane have altered normal voting procedures for many residents of New Jersey. Here is some information about how you can vote on November 6:
For the majority of voters in New Jersey, your polling location will be the same as usual. The most up-to-date information indicates that there are fewer than 100 polling locations throughout the state that have been changed due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy. To find out where you can vote, text "WHERE" to 877-877, and follow the instructions when prompted. This is a good idea, even if you are simply verifying your normal polling location will be open. Polling locations are open from 6 am to 8 pm.
You can also vote in-person at your county clerk's office between 8:30 am and 3:00 pm. To find your county clerk's office location, click here. (http://action.cwa-union.org/salsa/track.jsp?v=2&c=RIEVxVY9IHDIwToe8QMNBlsbdnhpoL1q)
If you have been displaced from your primary residence due to the storm or if you are a first responder, you may vote at any polling location in the State of New Jersey. To find the polling location nearest you, click here. (http://action.cwa-union.org/salsa/track.jsp?v=2&c=s5Nhkp%2FFL80ACpSVaaql%2B1sbdnhpoL1q) Additionally, if you are first responder or displaced from your primary residence due to the hurricane, you may submit an application to receive and fill out a ballot as a military or overseas voter by mail, fax or email. If you have questions about the process, you can find information here, (http://action.cwa-union.org/salsa/track.jsp?v=2&c=hSJ0IO2wQss%2B7fP0GDI5gFsbdnhpoL1q) and an application with information about your county here. (http://action.cwa-union.org/salsa/track.jsp?v=2&c=Ru25KgxidoEvm0haadopRFsbdnhpoL1q) If you are a first responder or have been displaced due to the storm and cannot vote at your home polling location or county clerk's office on Election Day, we strongly urge you to consider voting in person at another valid polling location before you consider voting by mail, fax or email.
If you are not able to vote or if you believe you are unjustly being denied the right to vote, please call CWA District 1 at 609-278-6588, or call your local for more information. There are a number of legal hotlines being established around the state and we may be able to direct you to one of them.
We hope all of you are safe and able to vote. If you are in need of services, njsandyresources.com is a good place to find information. In addition, CWA and several of our sister unions are sponsoring drives to provide food and other vital items to those displaced by the storm. For more information, please click here. In solidarity,
Hetty Rosenstein,

(448 posts)Plus, you can also text WHERE to 877-877 to find the closest polling place to your address. I did so tonight so I know it works.

(3,960 posts)Long building but the process was fun. I hope many New Jersey voters, such as myself, fearful of a lack of voting place took this opportunity to vote early. Fortunately, my town's power was restored by Sunday. Now everyone here can vote in mass. Get out and vote!
