Tweet from Glenn Thrush , Politico's White House correspondent on Romney internals

?@GlennThrush
Romney spox, just now in an email: "The numbers attributed to [Neil Newhouse] are incorrect, hence, not his."

Glenn Thrush ?@GlennThrush
The Romney campaign now saying internals attributed to their pollster Neil Newhouse showing Mitt up in Ohio, tied in WI, PA "are incorrect"

If you were a complete conspiracy theorist, you might think that they just got word: "The fix is NOT in, repeat The.Fix.Is.Not.In."

Love it. Newhouse just got had write up on how good/accurate he is. He must have decided his reputation was more important than propaganda.

from Neil Newhouse saying that they were up in OH and tied in WI, PA. Neil Newhouse is now saying he never said it.

ammunition to the other candidate. For example, Obama could send more resources into Ohio to work on GOTV if he really believed the Romney internal polling showed him gaining there.

This is another reason the internals never come out. These guys have livelihoods to protect.

These guys in the Romney campaign want to work again. They know they are going to lose, so they are treading a fine line between giving up without looking too dishonest.

Are they implying that their numbers are actually better than tied in WI and PA? Really seems like odd timing to come out with negative information

That things were not as good as they said yesterday. It does seem like odd timing. I think the idea was that the internals would give some credence to their potentially delusional optimism. Many thought it looked like some kind of desperation move. But now it seems like they are trying to deny this information because it was, um, not True.
