2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumCrap, I ran the 270towin simulation and Romney squeaked out a win. Then I saw it had awarded him
Wisconsin. And I didn't feel so worried. But I had to run it 5 more times and get solid Obama wins to assuage the concern.
NOT for the faint or heart but if you want to try it......

(35,699 posts)The other thing as Nate points out is that it basically treats each state result as an independent event and of course they are not. It matters that Obama has been gaining momentum in the last week even if some state polls don't reflect it so much because it has an affect on enthusiasm and turnout, which can't really be measured with statistics.

(15,435 posts)But I do have to say that I find Nate Silver's very high prediction very scary! Don't know how he does it, but almost 92% is something I've never seen!
One thing pundits have said from the get go that this will be a close election... 92% is much too easy, doncha think?

(35,699 posts)So a state which is almost even like Florida should come up 50% of the time for each candidate.
