What a way to start election day in our household!

This is a story about how phone banking to get out the vote really works!

So we get up around 6:30 and we're sitting around drinking coffee and reading the New York Times (Elliot Carter obituary), and my husband's cell rings around 6:51 am. Who the heck could that be he wonders. He picks up and it's a Wisconsin number. Turns out it's someone from the phone banking list he was calling on Saturday from the OFA office who missed the call and is ringing back to see what this call from the 312 was about.

"Oh, I was just calling you to remind you to vote today," I hear my husband say. The guy says he is going to. "Can I ask if you will you be voting for the president?" my husband asks. "Yes I will," is the response. "Well, the president thanks you for your vote. Are you sure you know where your polling site is?" "Actually, no," the guy responds. So my husband asks him to hold on and he goes to his computer, gets on vote.barackobama.com and asks for the fellow's address. He's able to gibe him the address of his polling place, and the guy says "Thanks!" and he's off to vote. Duty done!

This has me fired up and ready to go to my last shift of GOTV phone banking today, after I vote. I was sort of forlorn about whether all this dialing really works. But if it worked for even one soul in Milwaukee, it's worth the effort. Because if you can get out one vote in Milwaukee, you can get out the vote in Wisconsin, and if you can get out the vote in Wisconsin, you can get out the vote in the whole nation ... and we can change the world!

It is hard and sometimes tedious work, but GOTV works. If we win this today, it will be because of people like you and ALL of the volunteers who did this hard work
