2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumVoted in Southwest Virginia
Me and my wife just voted not to long ago in SWVA which is a red part of this state, however the poll workers stated that they were very dissapointed so far in the turnout...so much for all the enthusiasm Romney apparently had, if this is true and the turnout is down in red areas of this state then that's good news for us, btw only absentee early voting so that is not attributed to early in-person voting..

(12,253 posts)I have predicting (privately) that people will not turn out for Romney. He simply isn't liked or trusted and not that many voters are hold-your-nose-and-vote partisans. Maybe they will show up later in the day, but this is edifying news from a red area.

(7,365 posts)They won't sit this one out, they hate Obama too much.
BUT, having only an 'against' position won't win anyone else. I predict voter for Republic partisans will be high, but undecideds and independents will go with Obama in strong numbers.

Here's the 2008 map by county We had a good turnout at 6 this morning in my precinct, which went for Obama last time by 62%. The westernmost blue county in 2008 was Montgomery; that will probably be the same today.
BUT-- on edit, Dickenson was only about 50 votes in the red in 2008, so maybe you'll have a blue county in deep SW VA this year.
