For his next trick, Trump questions Clinton’s religious faith

Donald Trump questioned Hillary Clinton’s commitment to her Christian faith on Tuesday, saying that little is known about her spiritual life even though she’s been in the public eye for decades.

Speaking to a group of top social conservative evangelical Christian leaders at a gathering in New York City, Trump said, “we don’t know anything about Hillary in terms of religion.”

“Now, she’s been in the public eye for years and years, and yet there’s no – there’s nothing out there,” Trump said. “There’s like nothing out there. It’s going to be an extension of Obama but it’s going to be worse, because with Obama you had your guard up. With Hillary you don’t, and it’s going to be worse.”

As The Hill’s report noted, the behind-closed-doors meeting was not open to the public or to journalists, but one faith leader recorded Trump’s comments and posted them online.

But there is no doubt that her faith is not a big secret. Doesn't stop Trump for lobbing lies or likely promoting under informed innuendos.

media coverage of his comments or glance at her record by citizens will point up comparison of her strong Christian faith and his lack of it.

Those who soak this stuff up were always out of reach, but his focusing attention on it is likely to check off an item for lots of others who didn't know anything about her religious background. I suspect lots of possible swing voters tend to believe the right-wing propaganda that leftists are all atheists.

He says "what do we know about her Christian faith", but to his supporters, they hear "she's not a Christian".

Facts don't matter to this moron OR to his supporters. Supposition is good enough to make them hate someone they want to hate.

(Shut the fuck up, Donnie...)

US Constitution, Article 6, third clause:

"The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."

the only part of the constitution that they're interested in is the 2nd Amendment. And they don't fully understand that one either.

The government may not impose a religious qualification for office, but voters can certainly impose one for their vote.

If someone doesn't want to vote for a candidate who does or does not subscribe to any particular religious belief, then they are free to do that.

I'm sure there are plenty of folks who would not vote for a candidate on the basis of one religious belief or another.

I don't vote for people who think the world is 5,000 years old, for example. I don't vote for people who believe the apocalypse is near and that the fastest route to getting Jesus back is launching nuclear weapons. I don't vote for people whose religious beliefs are inordinately concerned with whom I love, or how we physically express that to each other. I don't vote for people whose religion apparently includes a sanctuary in everyone else's pants.

There are all sorts of religious beliefs which, if held by a candidate, would disqualify them from getting my vote.
