2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumJust a side comment among all the hoopla - Ohio and Florida may not matter, electorally.
Consider this -
New Hampshire - 4 electoral votes
Pennsylvania - 20
Virginia - 13
Wisconsin -10
Colorado - 9
Results in 279 electoral votes for President Obama, given the other reliably blue states (assume a win in Nevada here).
Recounts in Florida and Ohio may be needed for the record, but not the electoral outcome. And both states' tallies are needed for the eventual popular vote count.
Follow-up on voting process irregularities will be vital for future election security. That shouldn't go by the wayside, whatever the outcome.
Yet in this scenario, all can take place in their own time without the outcome hinging on an ambiguous electoral count.
Just my two cents. Was growing tired of the endless cable discussions of how many paths would result in a Romney victory. So I looked for one for Obama that didn't include a focus on Ohio or Florida.

(3,003 posts)But I'm not totally convinced we're going to win both Virginia and Colorado. There are a hell of a lot of conservatives living in both those states (shit, they both voted for Bob Dole!!). I never thought I'd live to see the day when VA and CO would become competitive. It IS nice to see though.

(204 posts)If we take Iowa, the typical Blue states, and VA the President has 270 votes and is re-elected.
