The Romney Precedent

Steve Benen chronicled over 900 Romney lies over the past year. What I think really happened in the first debate was that Romney just came out lying and President Obama wisely didn't just go after him shouting liar liar liar. That wouldn't have worked.

Joe Biden handled Paul Ryan's lies in an interesting way. But on the whole Romney seemed to lie so much and so shamelessly that it took the edge off of the fact that he is lying.

I find this to be highly disturbing, that such a large segment of our population isn't bothered by this pathological lying. Has Romney set a precedent here? Are we going to see this again?

What can we do about this, the false equivalence crap, and right moving the middle? I think these three things are related and I think we need to figure out a way to make these stunts backfire on them.
