Evidently, the Republicans own the flag

Was working this morning as committeeperson, giving out the Democratic slate, and some woman in red raincoat, American flag scarf, and American flag pin breezes into the polling place.

"You can tell how I'm voting by what I'm wearing!" she announced to us all.

"Because you guys own the flag?" I asked (I normally don't engage with conservative provocateurs)

"I still believe in American Exceptionalism!" she declared, as she disappeared into the main hall to vote.

Uh, okay....

a violation of the flag code and, as such, isn't very patriotic.

He showed up today in a flag tie with "Sore/Loserman" and Nixon buttons on his lapels, then proceeded to announce that he's seen on Faux News AND The Drudge Report that the scary New Black Panther Party was trying to steal the election in Pennsylvania.

I told him a single black man dressed in black was opening the door to potential voters and that voter intimidation was a non-issue by Democrats.

He then told me that the "Democrat" Party has a long history of voter intimidation and fraud.

I challenged him to name a case in the last 50 years.

He left the room.

By the way, he's not a real journalism professor. He specializes in public relations and marketing. Unfortunately, he's tenured and I'm not.

...ever since the 1988 campaign when Bush hammered Dukakis for vetoing an unconstitutional bill which would have required teachers to lead their students in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of a school day. Bush even concluded his convention acceptance speech by leading the entire delegation in the Pledge.

Any time you saw a Nixon appointee with one of this pins, you pretty much knew the dude would end up getting indicted.

Hey! Don't let THEM co-op the flag! Hang it out in front of your house proudly. I would add the terms 'family', 'patriotism' (which of course the writer did also mean), 'morals', 'values', etc. that the Right seems to think they own. All too often, much of what they actually do is the OPPOSITE of these things.
