Voters in Connecticut packed polling places Tuesday in a turnout some say is on par to match or exceed 2008 as the state's 2.1 million voters mark ballots in a down-to-the-wire president election and a hotly contested U.S. Senate race.
Polling places were packed Tuesday, causing 90-minute waits for part of the day in West Hartford.
Volunteers and election officials in a number of cities and towns reported high turnout perhaps more than the last presidential election in 2008.
"We are on track to hit our 75- to 80-percent turnout for the day," Av Harris, spokesman for Secretary of the State Denise Merrill, said at 3 p.m.

(66 posts)Husband and I voted for Obama and Murphy in Bethel, CT this morning. It felt great!
We were both asked to produce photo ID. The second we were asked a young man standing to the side of us jumped in and said that was not required. Obama poll watcher.

(666 posts)That would be surprising since today I heard that Murphy could lose to McMahon because of lack of votes from the Bridgeport area due to some of them still without power. But I would love to have a turnout like that and of course a Murphy victory.

(25,415 posts)High turnout in CT would be good for Dems.
No problems in Terryville. CT usually has things running smoothly. Power back on in all polling places except two which were moved due to flooding.

(8,203 posts)In another district here in New London, one of our three polling places was closed due to damage from Sandy. Canvassing over the weekend, I didn't come across a single person in that district who knew where they were supposed to vote. Despite this, and despite the fact that the polling location was moved to a place with no parking lot, and despite it being cold and people having to wait outside, the turnout has been great.
New London is key to getting Democrats elected. Normally the surrounding towns go slightly Republican, and the Democrats win if the turnout in New London is large enough. So I woke up worried for Chris Murphy, and am feeling great now.

(176 posts)Voted in Enfield at 6:45am, and was already voter number 462 at my precinct. Nothing drives Dem turnout (it appears) in CT like voting against Linda MittMahon.
I want to see Murphy and our President with +15% wins, respectively, in our state.
Anyone else going to be at the Hartford Hilton tonight for the Murphy party?

(8,391 posts)My polling place is right on the way to work, so I stopped there on the way. When I voted 4 years ago there was a huge line outside and then once you got inside. This time, I was surprised that there were no lines, although the traffic was steady and steady stream of people in and out. I just thought it would be like last time. But I am glad to hear voting is high. Maybe I just missed the rush this time!
Voted straight Blue! Am looking forward to saying "Senator Chris Murphy," and not hearing that groin kicking witch anymore!
