(54,405 posts)If there is a big turnout in Norther Virginia, with its huge number of government workers and academics, along with a decent-sized minority population, it could overwhelm the heavily Republican south and west of the State.
Not impossible, and Tim Kaine, while not a cauldron of dynamism, was a popular governor, and there ARE people who remember "macaca" after all.

(579 posts)Wow is all I have to say. It took me an hour to get my vote in before it was all said and done. Lines were going out to the street, I think the fundies believe they are fighting the apocalypse because they were out in droves compared to last time.

(999 posts)Everyone I spoke to this morning as well as my friends who have posted on FB have all said they had to wait anywhere between 30 to 60 minutes to vote. I was in line for about 30 minutes. This is not due to a lack of polling places because most of the elementary schools are being used. Since Virginia is very strict about the reasons for early voting, most of us will/have voted today. Northern Virginia, the Western suburbs of Richmond as well as some areas in Roanoke are going to make the difference for Obama. I think that the tidewater area will be split. As for Tim Kaine he was a good governor and most people are not willing to give George Allen a second chance. I say Virginia carries Obama 51-49.
