2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSo we are supposed to believe "Hispanics" favor Trump more than Romney in 2012
at least that is what the Quinnipiac Poll wants us to believe
Trump is at 33% support according to the Poll and in 2012 Romney recieved 27% support of Latinos
yeah I don't think so
Couldn't stand Romney but at least he was a legitimate candidate not a buffoon like Trump

(135,425 posts)Just like he loooooves "The Gays" and "The Women" and his well-known "My African American."
Notice how Donald always groups people by putting THE in front of their characterization? He can't say Mexicans without putting THE up front!
Hell, Romney's daddy was born in Mexico, and half his cousins are Mexicans. His grandparents skeedaddled across the border to avoid those polygamy problems!
and with Romney having famiy connections in Mexico he only got 27% of the "Hispanic" vote

(3,040 posts)If these polling groups don't make headline worthy predictions that bring eyes to media outlets once in a while, they will no longer be quoted because the MSM needs horse race statistics to bring in ad money from the super PACs and candidates. If every poll says that Clinton is winning by 40 points and ever minority group is all for Clinton, they would lose millions in Clinton ad money buys because there would be no need to buy ads if she had such a clear lead.

(3,040 posts)The Trump coverage is starting to become outright propaganda.

(34,661 posts)Remember comments from many of the so called Media Pundits back in 14',and they were planning on doing exactly what is happening today. If you remember, after Obama was reelected, the famous meeting of Media Execs and the leadership of the Rethug Party as to how they were not going to be on the losing end of the 2016 election.

(62,276 posts)You can even tell the journalists don't believe it whenever they say something positive. When Trump did his economics speech they were all "this is the best speech Trump ever gave." Then followed by "but it won't affect Clinton."
Else You Are Mad
(3,040 posts)The problem is that these journalists have to watch their words carefully or they will be banned from access to the campaign.
It reminds me of that Twilight Zone episode where everyone had to watch what they think around that monster kid who would kill them if they thought anything negative about him.

(62,276 posts)They lose the horse race narrative.
And I fully believe Trump would ban every last one of them if they were too hostile to him.
Imagine, Trump with zero media coverage, they cut away every time he speaks, they mock every stupid piece of shit thing he says, they ridicule him like the clown he is.
Loses by 30 points. Doesn't win a single state.

(3,040 posts)But, the those media outlets need high ratings to ensure ad revenue stays high from non-political advertisers. Trump brings in the highest ratings -- so they need to keep him on air as long as possible. And, to do so, they need access.

(62,276 posts)And pathetically, a large part of that is due to the American people wanting to watch the clusterfuck happen before their eyes.

(3,166 posts)and I have friends who say some uncle or cousin likes Rump, there are always going to be outliers but no way do 33% of Hispanics support him more likely in the teens

(5,861 posts)Scoffing at polls is what got Romney.

(3,166 posts)Does it make sense for Trump to get a higher percentage of the Hispanic vote than Romney
Especially when their has been a clear rise in public support from white supremacy groups supporting him not afraid/shamed to show it in public like this guy

now this isn't scientific but I live in a latino-American community and all throughout the little shops that populate the area, there are filled with Trump Pinata's, a Romney Pinata if one existed, which I doubt, I never saw. Thr Latino community from my experience hates the man
As far as Romney not believing the polls , it was their sides belief that the polls were overstating the Dem base turnout in actual voting in Nov. The polls were right but today a Candidate who has made his imprint from the get go that Mexicans are rapist, freeloaders and etc.
They are going to support him by a third of the pop when it was only a quarter in 12'? I believe the Q poll is most likely in my opinion an outlier

(5,861 posts)...and thinking about a few latin American acquaintances and their viewpoint, I would say they are attracted to his 'charisma'.
Trump is all about creating an image of success and power, and many people are attracted to that. People cling to power and what they perceive to be a winner.
Of course it is an image after all, but perception is reality.
